Let's start with the w00t- after a three-day, multi-14-hour-day crash course, I finished my NWN editor demo today and submitted my resume to Bioware! For any of you that haven't been following this latest drama, I'm applying to Bioware's Austin offices for a writer's position. The NWN editor, as in Neverwinter Nights, is a level editing program they've had available for a while. In order to apply, they required a sample level in that system- it's mostly to showcase your ability to write scripted dialogue, but having a working scenario doesn't hurt. I'm really happy with what came out of my efforts- it's not a fully functioning level with combat and a quest and all, but the conversations all work and sound great, and nothing is glaringly broken. Anyway, cross your fingers. If any of you have NWN and care to check it out, there's a link on the new writing blog I created (just for the sake of estabishing an online portfolio for Bioware, really). The address is
duffyt3.blogspot.com/ On a related note, it's weird- I've been writing pretty much all day this entire week, but I've found that it's coming to me even easier than when I'd normally say "damn, I'm on a roll!" Sometimes I go a stretch without writing, but for some reason since I've sat down to do this it's just all falling into place. Not just for the sample level or the NWN-themed pieces I wrote, either- I've been editing my "Vaughn" piece today, which is a sort of science-fiction western I've had going for almost two years, and I've got to say it looks better than it ever has. I dunno what's going on, but I'm not complaining!
EDIT: BALLS!!! I just realized that I didn't put any goddamned reference on my resume! I better go fix that shit!
