So...it disturbs me that I'm finding the time to write in this regularly, but whatever...without further ado....my 15 favorite Christmas songs. I advise you at least do a Youtube search for any that you don't know.
In no particular order...
~"Father Christmas" by the Kinks (Haven't you ever had the urge to mug a department store Santa? I could view this song as a commentary on poverty, but I prefer to just think of it as a fun song.)
~"It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" (My favorite classic-ish Christmas song...I was sad that we weren't doing it for Senior caroling, but then I realized that without the right harmonies it sounds terrible, so it was for the best.)
~"Hey Santa" by Carnie and Wendy Wilson (Before I became a Wilson Phillips nut, I knew of the Wilson sisters from their Christmas CD...I remember decorating the house with my parents back in the day while listening to this.)
~"Little Drummer Boy" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (Come on, it's Joan Jett...Her voice makes this classic song amazing...even better than the Bing Crosby/David Bowie version...)
~ "2000 Miles" by the Pretenders (The title of this entry comes from this, BTW...awesome song from one of my favorite bands.)
~ "I Want a Hipopotomus for Christmas" by Gayla Peevey (Come on, you, too, only like hippopotomuseses....and they like you, too!)
~ "It's Just What I Always Wanted" from the Rankin/Bass version of "Jack Frost" (I had trouble picking one song from a Rankin/Bass Chrismas special. I ultimately chose this one becasue it has more to do with Christmas than my other favorites from those movies, such as "Put One Foot In Front of the Other" and "I've Got A Day Named After Me."...It's just what I always wanted, it's perfectly right....It's just what I always wanted, a Christmas delight!)
~ "Happy Xmas (War is Over)" by John Lennon (Cliche, yes, but people love it so much because of the hope it brings for the new year...and it's just a pretty song. Or at least that's why I like it.)
~ "Step into Christmas" by Elton John (I don't know; it just puts me in a good mood.)
~ "Baby, It's Cold Outside" by Dean Martin (I'm a sucker for duets, what can I say?)
~ "Silent Night" by the Jingle Cats (A bunch of cats singing...my mom and I used to have a cassette of this we played in the car in December.)
~ "Perfect Christmas" by S Club 7 (Brings me back to my amazing teenybopper days when S Club 7 was my life. When I wasn't living for S Club back then, it was because I was too busy living for Christmas.)
~ "Santa Baby" by Eartha Kitt (Every little girl vamps it up in front of a mirror to this song...right? Just me? Okay...but other little girls should try it...it's fun!)
~ "Last Christmas" by George Michael (There's nothing better than a Christmas love song...except for one by Geroge Michael that is later done by Savage Garden...really.)
~ "Christmas Wrapping" by the Waitresses (Probably my favorite Christmas song...how can you not like a song about a cynic finding love on Christmas Eve on account of a lack of cranberries? It should be a classic)
So, to everyone reading...
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas...Couldn't miss this one this year!
