If you haven't seen Charlie the Unicorn 2 yet,
you probably should. I'm not sure if it's quite as good as the original, just because the first was so unexpectedly random, but it's still awesome. I've been going around singing "Put a Banana in your Ear" a lot. And whenever someone at Pete's buys bananas, I think of the video and start laughing as I ring them up. Because looking psycho in public is fun.
So, since the fourth grade or so, summer has been my favorite season, partly because of the nice weather and pretty green stuff outside, but mostly because it meant I didn't have to waste my time in school. But this year I'm totally excited for college, and summer just seems like the biggest waste of time ever. I like my job, but I'm only working three days a week, and the rest of the time I'm just sitting around watching bad movies (which I love, don't get me wrong) and bumming around. I've also found it's a bad idea to have a social life dependent on one or two people, since when they go away/have lives, you have absolutely nothing to do.
But the summer has provided a few fun days, such as:
~Going to the beach with my mom for a few days and getting overly-tan (I didn't really need a tan in the first place)/noticably sunburnt for the first time ever. And we went to the
most amazing ice cream place on LBI where they sing showtunes and make you get up and embarrass yourself.
~Celebrating my birthday with a sleepover/south street excursion with Lydia, Kellie, and Kari. We wandered around South Street and bought posters and went to Charles' plaza, and sadly Charles wasn't there, and we had the most frawkward (frustrating and awkward? Okay, I won't say it again) experience ordering our food. Had Charles been there, he would've already known what we wanted, since he seems to remember everything and everyone. When I went with my family on my actual birthday, he gave me a present, and I was happy. After that, we took the train into Media and since Kari had never been, we gave her a quick tour. The day was tons of fun, since tiring out your friends is always enjoyable.
~The weekend where I spent enough money to feed an entire developing nation for a month on movie tickets and food, but got to see amazing movies--Sex and the City and Wall-E...and The Love Guru. It really wasn't as bad as everyone has been saying. The ending sequence made up for all the dumb potty humor. I'm still anticipating seeing Mama Mia! (watching Muriel's Wedding over and over has put me in an ABBA mood), Hamlet 2, American Teen, and Vicky Christina Barcelona (just because I need to watch more Woody Allen stuff)...oh, and the Kit movie. Kit was one of my favorite American Girls and Abagail Breslin is one of those rare tolerable child stars, so I feel obligated.
~Vegan Buffets. Probably sounds gross to most people, but it was amazing.
~My dog's new boyfriend. :-P My mom and I were walking Trixie in the park, and she usually wants nothing to do with other dogs, but we passed this big Chow Chow and she started barking and did her little greeting dance that she usually only does for people. And then we passed the dog like four more times and each time she got really excited. What attracted her to that dog, I don't know...the blue tongue, maybe?
~And of course, shopping. It sounds horribly vain, but I'm always happy right after I buy something new and then spend the day trying to pair it with everything else I own.
And I guess there's something else that's making my summer a bit sucky, but I'll save that for another (private) entry and instead force my favorite Madonna song on you:
