and then, it's nice and quiet...

Had my interview today. I feel very good about it - I think I had great energy and I was very articulate and animated throughout. They seemed to like my pitch, and they asked me some questions about "Rabbits" which makes me think they actually watched all of it. I think I gave great answers to some of their questions, less great answers to some, but I don't think I said anything fatal and I didn't freeze up at any point. At one point I was asked "if you were a toy, what toy would you be?" and I shot back with (IMHO) a great answer involving my resemblance to a jack in the box. When they asked me a movie I didn't like I foolishly said "Far From Heaven," foolishly because I haven't seen it in forever and basically all I could say in defense of my answer was "the racist and homophobic characters were two dimensional and boring." Which I think is totally true but I fear that it made me sound a) un-analytical or b) racist and homophobic. I went on to talk about how important it is for the audience to relate to the villain, which at least was interesting I guess.

So after the individual interview I had about an hour break and then the group interview. Seven of us, wrapped around a table, had to choose one of seven story ideas and then develop it into a short film in seven parts. I think I did OK here - I contributed some ideas that we ended up using, and I got a laugh with the part of the story that I ended up telling. Everyone there seemed pretty on the ball and I don't know if I distinguished myself enough or whatever, but again I'm pretty happy with my performance. Then we did an hour tour of the film school which would have been great if my new shoes hadn't been gouging bloody blisters into my heels with every step. Ouch.

In summary, I'm happy with my performance today (and yes it was a performance), I don't know if it was enough to get me in because I think I'm up against very competent and qualified people (no surprise there). Guess I'll find out in a few weeks...
