Mandy was nervous, which was strange because usually before a party she excited and ready to get there, but this was a whole other thing entirely. She wasn't exactly invited to this party. No she wasnt just randomly showing up crashing, she had an excuse, but she still have a feeling she was probably going to be very out of place.

When her mother first told her about the party at Malfoy Manor she was excited. The Malfoys were of very high standing and who didn't love that, of course it was hard for her, she was a half-blood. Her mother's new boyfriend, aka Daniel's dad was invited and so he was bring along Mandy's mom, and so Mandy is brought along. She hoped that the Slytherin's didn't think ill of her because of her showing up.

She arrived with her mother and Daniel's family via floo and made sure she still looked in tact. She adored her outfit and hoped it wouldn't look too out of place. She smiled at her mother and walked around, hoping to quickly find someone she could strike a conversation up with.Reply

Daphne spotted Mandy as soon as she arrived. The girl stuck out like a sore thumb - so nervous among the poised and elegant. Regardless, she made her way over to her.

"Happy Christmas," Daphne said smoothly, an actual smile on her face. She handed the girl a tall glass of her favorite bubbly. "This always makes it easier to make it through polite conversation."

Mandy smiled a bit at Daphne. She took the champagne and nodded a thanks. It was weird being here. Her mum was enjoying the ability to catch up with her old classmates and she was the only non-Slytherin child here. Normally she would have ran over and hug Draco but she wasn't quite sure how they were yet and well he was busy entertaining his other Slytherin cohorts.

Mandy took a sip, "Thank you. Normally I would have no problem jumping in, but I'm not used to any of this. It's amazing though. I'm glad to see mum enjoying herself though," she said nodding to her mom.

"It is fabulous," Daphne agreed, looking out onto the scene. The Malfoys never failed to impress her. Every year seemed to be bigger and better than the last. Daphne loved the plush velvet bows, floating orbs, and soft music. She never knew anything but grand.

"Its a lot to take it...but it does seem like your mum fits right in. But trust me, don't jump in right away. Its much more fun on the side lines than getting pulled into a conversation you care nothing about."

Mandy nodded as she looked around. She had never seen a house this fancy. Her mum and her weren't bad off but they certainly didn't live like this. It was addicting, Mandy would love to have this life. And all these people acted like it was nothing, it was mindblowing.

"My mum's just happy I'm sure to catch up with old schoolmates. She told me she hadn't seen some of them in years. I'm glad she's happy." She took another sip of champagne and look to Daphne, "I like your dress, it's gorgeous."

Daphne smiled. She knew she looked amazing but it was always nice to hear regardless. Fashion, her body, and money were practically everything to her. Well, they were everything before Terry came into her life and made her question everything. The sudden thought of him made her yearn for him.

"Yours is..." She trailed off, looking her over. Daphne was impressed. "Yours is stunning. You look like a little snow fairy."

Mandy blushed and looked down. The dress was beautiful, and was glad that Daphne liked it. It was her Christmas outfit her mother bought her. Of course her mother didn't find it anywhere famous like Paris or Milan, just in London. So she really hoped Daphne didn't ask.

"Oh thank you. My mother found it for me. I guess it's a good thing I can trust her judgement in fashion taste mostly yeah?" She said with a laugh.

"We all must learn from somewhere," Daphne mused, pointing her own mother out from the crowd. Sophia Greengrass was deep in conversation with the other pureblood women, dressed in a floor length red silk gown that fit her like a glove. It had been custom made in Italy.

"That women takes fashion more serious than I do." Daphne laughed at the thought, sipping her own champagne.

Mandy looked over at Daphne's mom and was in awe, this lady knew what she was doing. Mandy was impressed. She knew it was nothing like what her family and her could afford, but she still thought her mum looked nice too. Fashion must be this woman's life.

Mandy smiled, "She's beautiful. Does she work in the fashion industry also?"

"She's an editor for Witch's Vogue. She helped founded the magazine as well," Daphne told her, feeling a swell of pride for her mother.

"But really that just means she makes people wear what she wants and has an excuse to travel."

"Oh wow, Daphne that is so impressive. Good for your mum," she smiled and sipped her champagne. Her mum did nothing like that, and wasn't going to share unless asked because honestly these people didn't need to look down at her anymore, she already felt it.

"What does your mum do? How'd she meet Mr. Harper?" she asked, genuinely interested. Mandy interested Daphne. Something about her was endearing.

"Because it isn't often we see a new face at these functions."

Mandy looked down and played with her champagne glass, "She's a healer. She just started this year, she works with Mr. Harper. I guess they got along right away." Mandy bit her lip and looked at Daphne. "My dad worked in the Department of Mysteries when I was younger, my mom stayed at home. When he died we had enough that she didn't have to work, but the last few years she's been studying for it. Something for her to do now."

"That's very....honorable of her," Daphne offered, frowning a bit at Mandy's sad story. She didn't know what she'd do without one of her parents. It was too painful to think about.

"I couldn't do anything like that. Too much blood and sickness makes me queasy. But I'm sure that's no surprise."

Daphne laughed again, sipping her drink. She was the girliest of girls, to say the least.

Mandy laughed and nodded, she couldn't see Daphne doing anything medical either. Of course Mandy probably couldn't do it either. "I understand, I probably wouldn't ever do that too. I'm thinking about going into curse-breaking or something like that. Would you follow in your mother's footsteps?"

"Curse breaking - how exciting!" Daphne said, thinking of all the possibilities and places that career could take Mandy. It was very promising.

"Mummy wants me to take over, yes. But I am very unsure of what I want to do. Honestly, since Terry...I'm rethinking everything in my life."

She took a deep breath, suddenly more serious than she had meant to be. Her voice was lighter when she spoke about Terry, daydreamy and heavy at the same time.
