I'm all for America, but fuck the army.
So, as many of you know, my older brother's been in the army for a few years now. He's done one year in Iraq and has been sitting in Germany for the last few months waiting to go back. Naturally, in the bum-fuck part of Germany he's in, there's not much to do but drink. Again, if you've ever heard me talk about Tom, you probably know that he likes to fight every once in a while, but would rather have a beer and whiskey more than once in a while.
Last Monday, Tom was apparently out doing what he does best at bars when some group of new recruits jumped him. Tom, being a seargent, decided to play cool and net get into it with these guys, but alcohol being the miracle drug that it is, these fuckers decided to jump Tom when he left the bar.
For a bit of preface, Tom has never lost a fight. I've seen a video of him taking on three guys who all outweighed him at once, they were all hospitalized.
Tom got fairly roughed up, but walked it off and sat in an alley to rest and then go find a cab. Meanwhile, those group of recruits went and got the MP's (Military Police). The MP's found Tom in the alley and started kicking the shit out of him, someone broke a bottle on his face, and these fucking POLICE went to town on Tom.
MY mom called me up last night to tell me about all of this, Tom was in the hospital for a few nights and had to have broken glass removed from his eye. Not the area around his eye, but his actual eyeball. He also got a bunch of stiches and was found to have a pretty bad concussion. So now, the military is in a huge uproar, my brother's unit says that nothing happened, but investigators are trying to bring up a courtmarshall against a fairly large group of the guys. The MP's lied in their police report about how fucked up Tom was, the medics who found Tom are testifying to that. Tom also has about 40 other people who witnessed it all (He's a popular guy at the bars), so hopefully those fuckers will get to cool their heels in a military prison for a while.
What truely angers me, and its a rare thing for me to be actually mad, is that Tom won't be coming home now. He was supposed to be back this week and I was going to get to see him before he went back to Iraq, but now his unit isn't letting him come back to the States. Chances are good that he won't be able to come back until all the court business is finished, and by the time that happens, his unit will be deployed. He already spent a year over there, and then some fucking RECRUITS who haven't done shit over in Iraq go and fuck up Tom so he can't come home. Fuck that.
I can say this with absolutely no doubt in my mind, FUCK THE ARMY.
