I'm often asked by friends for songs/bands/artists, which they may enjoy.
Obviously depending on the person whom asks the question, the answer varies to tastes suited to them - but I also recommend seven songs to almost everyone I know, and have been championing how great they are for as long as I can remember hearing the songs.
Song of them are reasonably new, but I think they're the type of song I'll be continuing to listen to and promote for years. - and I thought I'd tell everyone about them right here.
i) The Who - Who Are You?
- Taken from the album 'Who Are You'. An all round great track - IMO The Who's very best song - and very much worth listening too.
See also, the live version taken from "Who's Last"
ii)Katie Melua - Just Like Heaven
- Taken from the album 'Piece By Piece'. This is a cover of the classic Cure track - much maligned by friends of mine (and fans of The Cure) but I think it's really and excellent version.
iii)Hundred Reasons - Avalanche
- Taken from the album 'Ideas Above Our Station'. Just brilliant. I feel in love with this album when I heard this song, shame the band never kept at tracks of this stature. Not what they're known for but a stand up effort from them. Check it out.
iv)Dirty Pretty Things - Bang Bang You Dead
- Taken from the album 'Waterloo To Anywhere' (Due out soon). Carl Barat (The Libertines) new band, release this effort - better than anything Pete Doherty and Babyshambles have managed to date, in fact, better than anything the Libertines ever did as well. Top Track, one for the future.
v)The Kooks - Sofa Song
- Taken from the album 'Inside In Inside Out'. I've been recommending to everyone for about a year now, and finally they are getting recognition for their skill. The best music to come out of Brighton ever - probably. Get this, and join a local fan club now, they'll be huge soon.
vi)The White Stripes - Hardest Button To Button
- Taken from the album 'Elephant'. Don't need to say much more, they are world renowned as it is. You probably love them already...if not this is a good place to start.
vii)The Kings Of Convenience - I Don't Know What I Can Save You From
- Taken from the album 'Quiet Is The New Loud'. Well known amongst the 'indie' circles around the world, and you've probably heard a remix of their songs in nightclubs up and down the country. Here they are, at their best.
So there you are, I'm not professing to being the all seeing, all knowing, superior music critic here. I'm simply hoping someone, somewhere will listen to at least one of these tracks...and that it brightens up their day.
