I thought I'd use this first post to write a bit about me and who I am, what I do, what I like and so forth. To begin with, I have to quoth the lovely Jade Fountaine from
PvPOnline.
I am woman, see me game
You and I are much the same
I can strife, duck and snipe
and no, I'm not your type.
This is one shrew you cannot tame.
I am woman, see me game.
I'm a female Swedish gamer, age 23. I have played games since as far back as I can remember, beginning with sharpening my reflexes by dodging when my brother lost on the Nintendo 8-bit and tried to punish me for it. I learned the difference between right and left by playing Zelda 1 with my mother and following her instructions. When I was eight, I was reading the Lord of the Rings. I was doomed from the start.
Coming from a rather poor family, we didn't really get a better console than Super Nintendo, so I kind of lost out on computer games and console games for a long while. (I did however play Simon the Sorcerer on our ancient computer, only to once again find myself beaten to the finish by my mother. She didn't have to go to school.) I read a lot though, and at the tender age of 13 a friend and I decided to try and find some RPGs. Living in the absolute middle of nowhere, it took about a year until we finally found some and taught ourselves how to play. (Chronopia, for you swedish gamers out there...)
DAMN did we suck. But what glorious fun we had!
After a couple of years of hacking, slashing, carousing, intriguing and romancing worthy of a soap opera, we grew up (a bit) and found other people and other games. Vampire - the Masquerade spoke to something in our Teenage Angsty Oh-My-Gawd-I'm-Goth souls, Deprived of Romance and Darkness. I'll have to admit I'm still kind of in love with the game. When I moved to another town and got access to Internet on a steady basis, it wasn't long until my horizons expanded - no, exploded - and I was in over my ears in RPGs, LARPs, CCGs, board games, conventions, comics, movies, books, music, you name it.
Enough about my gaming history. Where am I now?
I'm a steady participant in a vampire LARP in Borås where I live at the moment. I have a wonderfully geeky boyfriend who games at least as much as I do and have done so for far longer. I collect odd and funny games and other stuff, and I have lots of friends sharing my interest.
There.
Let madness ensue.
