An interesting report on shipping in general and *some* Harry/Hermione shippers' reactions to HBP in particular: in the San Fransisco Chronicle. I just thought it was...I'm having a hard time coming up with the right word for it...facinating behavior? And the little comment about Harry/Draco made me smile. Only in California ( Read more... )

Hope you don't mind random commenters :)

To be fair, it isn't like our ship (R/S) have been really sunk. The R/T shook up my perception of Remus just a little (I honestly can't see him having any real interest in any females, like ever, but it's canon now...), but I do not see it ruling out any chance of previous R/S. Sirius is dead after all, and moving on is the healthy thing to do. Remus is a true survivor, who's to say he can't find love in other places. That said, I found the whole R/T rather slapdash, and out of place ;)

The H/Hr shippers on the other hand have been forced to watch their precious ship explode, burn and then sink with no hope of re-surfacing. Of course they're upset. That doesn't excuse some of their outbursts, but who am I to call "get a life!"

I can't for the life of me however see where they even got the materials to build that ship at all in the first place. It isn't like Rowling wasn't dropping anvils about the R/Hr from the second book onwards, and slightly lesser stones about H/G... RL/SB on the other hand is just glaringly obvious, isn't it? *BG*

No, I don't mind at all.

And you're right. Our ship did shake me up a bit (to be honest, it threw me into a funk of depression for about 4-5 hours). But after that, I just simply shrugged and went back to writing MWPP-era, PoA-OotP, and AU fics. And you're right...the R/T (despite the crazy R/T shippers that have claimed to see it from OotP) is rather out of place. I mean, Tonks obviously loves him, but I don't see any evidence that her feelings are returned. There's no magic, no chemistry between these two characters like there is between Sirius and Remus (even if they are 'just friends').

That said, I forgot that H/Hr shippers had their ship mauled from two different directions. I see why the possibility of that ship would be attractive (the brainy bookworm getting the hero), but R/Hr has been hinted at from the beginning. Even my uncle, who is the most oblivious person ever when it comes to romance and such, asked me after he read the second book if R/Hr was going to happen.

RL/SB on the other hand is just glaringly obvious, isn't it? Oh, yeah. ;) At least, it is in my mind...but maybe not in JKR's. But you never know, this might be the closest she can get to hinting at some sort of gay relationship in a children's book without the world crying for her blood.

I'm inclined to agree here. And JK always said that Remus was more or less the embodiment of the prejudice of the world... you know... judging a book by its cover (or its name, in poor Remi's case). He's got the werewolf prejudice against him already, what's one more? That's always been my take on it.

Also... yeah. I saw R/Hr coming a long time ago. As far as the books go, anyway.
