Dax and May: Their Room: Morning

May 05, 2005 05:59

Groggy, his head heavy like wood, Dax opened his eyes, glancing around him for a minute. Bed, he was in bed, he wasn't wearing any clothes, and...oh yes. A smile barely registered on his sleepy face as he turned his head and spotted May, laying on her stomach asleep next to him, the blankets pulled up to her back, she was so beautiful, peaceful ( Read more... )

His head fell to the pillow as he was shunned, her back visible to him now as she sat there, talking to him over her shoulder, scornfully, clearly upset with his request. He'd known before he said it that it was shaky ground to walk on, but now he was instantly back in that dog house she kept so nearby for him, and maybe he hadn't meant it the way she had interpreted it, suddenly becoming defensive over a misunderstanding.

Sitting up slightly and propping himself on his elbow, he reached out and touched her shoulder, pulling the hair back before running his fingers down her shoulder, down her arm. He was compelled, sitting up and pressing his lips to her soft skin. "I didn't mean that May," he told her gently, carefully. "I just meant this morning, that I could skip training, and breakfast, and you could lay here for a while, before we both had to get up and get to our chores and," he trailed off, biting down hard on the word, "jobs," it hurt, to have to say it, but he understood.

Yesterday had brought about a turn of events that had churned and frothed in the foamy sea of his confusion, until the light had shown through, showing him what was going on, an understanding. Yeah, he'd never be comfortable with her going out there and risking her neck, not now, not ever, but he wouldn't be quite as resistant to it as he had been. He wasn't a complete and utter ass, he was capable of understanding things, besides, if it irritated Lex to have May out there doing what she was doing, well, all the better then. Dax had grown a thick hatred for the little man and the way he spoke to May, and though Dax would never purposefully put May into a dangerous situation just to irritate the little man, if she had to do it, and it upset Lex, well that was just a double whammy.

Kissing her shoulder again, he let his hand trail across the back of her neck, down her other shoulder, "Listen love, I understand about your job, and that you have to. That doesn't mean I have to like it, or that I won't worry, but the fighting over it is off, ok? I'm, well I'm proud of you, you're strong, I admire that in you. I still don't want you to get hurt, it pains me that you're out there being put in danger. But, I can do bugger all about that, so it means I have to accept it, and I'm ok with that," his voice was soft, he was talking against her shoulder with his lips, wishing she'd relax back into the bed and just take it at what it meant; he wanted to hold her close as long as he was allowed today, that's all.

She was angry and she felt betrayed at his original words. Asking her to stay in, was he crazy? But when touched her the way he did, with the caressing of her shoulder and arms, it made her wonder if she had mistook what he said, or if he was just trying to pacify her. She heard his word and instantly she felt guilty, even more than she had already been feeling, but this way was worse. Shaking her head, she couldn’t help but sigh. I am such a idiot. I don’t even think before I speak and instead I make an ass out of myself to the one person who actually understands me. May started to turn towards him before speaking. “ I’m sorry Dax. I guess I’m just not used to you giving up on a subject. I was expecting you to fight me until I stopped doing it.” Looking down at the floor in front of her, she felt his lips on her shoulder.

After all her freaking out, he still just wanted to spend time with her. He wasn’t going to fight her anymore. This time, May turned completely around, making it so they were face to face once again. As she turned, she felt his lips trailing over her body and when she finished, his lips were at her chin. “ Thank you.” It was all she needed to say to all that he just placed on her plate. Pausing for a moment, she brought her hand up to trace the bone from his upper jaw to his chin, then gently pulling his chin up, so their lips could meet. Her kiss was soft and tender, an apology for her actions. The rest of her body had a different motive. She slid herself the small space that was between them, her stomach against his stomach, and she chest against his. One leg slipped between his, and the other wrapping over, intertwining them. She wanted to be as close as she possibly could be. Sometimes, people just needed to be touched, and she wanted every part of her to touch him.

"I know, it's ok love, and believe me, if I hadn't of been a part of the conversation we had yesterday with Lex, with Salene, I would be fighting you, but I understand more now," he ran his hand down the length of her arm, to her elbow, cupping his hand around it. She shifted and he just trailed his lips across her skin, around her shoulder, across the sharp expanse of her collarbone, every movement tender, ending up at her chin. He smiled gently when she thanked him, it wasn't necessary, he owed her more apologies than he could come up with in a lifetime, but it was nice anyway.

Her sweet kisses unraveled him, her body pressed against his and he lost himself, everything was forgotten, he was unable to think of the past, to consider the future, every moment was here, now, this. His arms engulfed her small body and held her close, gently, but firmly, and he made no movement to touch her in any way other than caring. He wanted to wrap himself around her and never let go, never leave this place, to tie a cord around them and keep them connected at the soul. Even if he couldn't go with her, even if he couldn't always keep her safe, he could love the woman he was with now, and think of her always.

He'd say nothing more, he wasn't going to end up in the doghouse again this morning, if she had to leave him later the last thing he wanted her to remember was that he loved her, that he was waiting for her at home, ready to bandage her wounds, to kiss them and treat her like his most treasured prize. That's what she was, and he would worship her like the goddess she was to him. He wanted her to know that when she was fighting, because Dax believed more than anything that having the knowledge that someone back home loves you, is waiting to welcome you back, that alone would pull someone through even the most depressing moments of battle. It was true, and he wanted her to know that above anything.

May closed her eyes to his touches, the soft caress of his lips on her shoulder as he slowly found his way to her chin. His moments were tender and lovely. It was a feeling she had felt very rarely in the past. It made her wonder for a moment if this had all been one big dream. No one ever loved her as much as Dax did and it didn’t feel real. No one had ever reacted to her getting hurt like he did. At first she was angry that he was angry, but inside she was just so overwhelmed with the amount of love he had for her that she couldn’t react as normal people did. Of course, she never acted like normal people. She spent the majority of her life making sure it was hard for anyone to get to know her.

His arms surrounded her body, dwarfing her next to his size. It always amazed her how much bigger he was than her and how he never crushed her. He was always gentle and loving with her, even when he was angry. She was content to lay here forever and forget the rest of the world. What did the world need them for at the moment? Nothing, they could lay here for hours before anyone said anything. The warmth of his love was rolling off him in waves, surrounding her mind and body with a calm she rarely felt. Suddenly, she squeezed him hard, pressing her body against his, as if she was afraid he would disappear if she didn’t cling to him enough. “I Love you.”

Relaxing into the bed next to her, holding her, closing his eyes and thinking only tender, loving thoughts about her, and his mind even slipped to the future. He'd only known her a week and already he felt like it'd been a year, forever and a day, god he never wanted to let her go. When they fought and he was sent away from her, it was the worst feeling of his life, to not be allowed hear her because she was angry, because he'd messed up, it killed him a little bit inside. Being near her again, allowed in her presence, loved by her, he knew now it was something he never wanted to lose again.

His eyes came open as she pressed in tighter, clinging to him, it was as if she felt everything he was thinking too, being there with him, never wanting to leave. "I love you too, May," he responded easily, meaning it. How had he found this woman, his life had changed so drastically, it was all because of her. She amazed him, and he knew he was three times her size and yet, she could still push him around, she still commanded his respect and attention as if they stood eye to eye. He did love her, he loved everything about her, even, admittedly, their fights.

Rubbing her arm gently, he kissed the top of her head and held her there. He had a million things to say, but none of the words seemed to be real words, nothing in this world had the capability to explain to her what he felt, how he felt, why he felt the way he did. Did he have to? Was she looking for validation? Ugh, he was overthinking it all again. Relax, mind, just go back to that blissful place of contentment you were feeling not five minutes ago, he chastised inwardly, kissing the top of her head again. The scent of her warm, vanilla and spice shampoo filled his senses and brought back memories of showering together and doing nothing inappropriate, putting a smile on his face. May was changing his life, in good ways, and he held her so close in this moment, so near, he'd never let go.

She couldn’t help but smile at his words. Of course, he loved her too and she knew this, but it was the first time in her life she had actually believed those words from a boy’s mouth. May knew she could always be herself with Dax and he wouldn’t judge her because he had stuff in his past that he wasn’t so fond of too. It was nice to connect with someone like that. As she clung to him, she left all her worries and thoughts just drift away, closing her eyes to the rest of the world and only allowing herself to acknowledge Dax and herself.

Sighing contently, she relaxed against the pillow, lessening her grip on him. “You’re right…. Let’s just lay here for as long as the rest of the world lets us.” Trailing her hand down his shoulder, she let her fingers just graze over his skin until she reached his hand. Intertwining their fingers, she held his hand close to her heart.
