Dax Working Out In The Gym/Shower/In His Room with Flower and Anna(A GIANT?!)

May 09, 2004 01:20

Dax had long ago finished the dishes, leaving them to dry in the rack before he left the Extra Cafe. He had taken a stroll around the second floor, keeping his eyes open as he watched everyone moving around, going about their business. His mind was lost on the things Salene had told him before the kids had suddenly arrived, mulling it over, ( Read more... )

Dax worked slowly, forgetting about his worries and concerns, May was just out there trying to stop the color wars by gathering information. Why didn't she want him to go with her? He couldn't, of course, he was to watch after Salene, but she could have asked at least. It didn't matter, and Dax worked through his upper body reps until his muscles were tight and had a burn going, then he worked on his abdominals. He did a few rounds with a punching bag, then worked on his lower body a bit, it was nice to be able to do weight training, push ups and sit ups too, in a closed and quiet environment, with the equipment, even the Chosen hadn't had things like this. When he was done, he stood up and wiped down the bench, then his forehead. He knew he needed to shower off real quick, and he felt bad he'd already taken a shower this morning, wasting water, but it had been completely worth it, and this thought made him smile, he couldn't help it ( ... )

Flower peered around the doorframe of The Shower Room after Dax, who disappeared into one of the room's. "That's where someone's room was. I guess it's the Giant's room." She told Anna, quickly dragging her down the hallway to follow him. She paused for a moment, than reached up and knocked on the door. She didn't know what she was going to say or ask, but her curiousity had the better of her.

Dax changed quickly, gathering his workout clothes to take to the hamper, his boots on, even his clear plastic hazard jacket was in place. He was just combing his hair, he had yet to reapply his Tribal markings, when a small knock came at the door. He walked across the room and pulled the door open, looking down at the two little girls, his eyebrows raised in surprise. Had he done something wrong? Had he forgotten something? "Um, can I help you?" He felt weird, why were they knocking on his door? It didn't really matter he supposed, they were members of this Tribe now, weren't they, or at least guests like he was, he could be nice to them. Besides if Salene approved of their presence in the Mall, then he had nothing to complain about. He turned away from them, heading over to the mirror to finish his hair and put his tribal markings back on, they could talk while he did that he hoped.

Anna couldn't believe Flower had decided to follow this guy. Sure she had asked who he was, but that didn't mean they were supposed to trail him! And to his room!! She stood in the doorway with her friend watching him. He definitely seemed a giant although admittingly she and Flower weren't very tall. Ryan was big to them! But this guy...And he was standing there fixing his hair? She giggled.

"Uhm...." She suddenly felt awkward. "I'm Anna and this is Flower. Are you a giant?" It was the only thing she could think of asking. Willow had read them stories about giants and castles and dragons. Maybe they did exist. She tilted her head studying him, wondering if he had to duck to get through the doorways or how many times he hit his head on the door frames.

Flower didn't add anything to Anna's statement, just looked up at Dax with wide eyes, waiting for his answer. She was thinking of Willow's stories too, and wondering if he really was a giant. It was pretty exciting to think about. She actually stayed pretty still as she waited, wondering which way she wanted him to answer.

Dax stood there at the mirror as the girls giggled, ignoring them, replacing the two blue lines perfectly then working on the white lines. He was just about done with his right one when he heard it, I'm Anna, this is Flower, are you a Giant? and he turned, a quick, "What?!" coming out of his mouth as he turned his head and drew his white line all the way back to his ear. "Ahhh," he grumped, holding his tongue and not cursing in front of them, picking up a tissue and wiping off what was wrong, working on it again. "No, I'm not a giant, I'm just a tall man. Do you really think giants exist? Do you two have any other silly questions?" Dax was trying not to be grumpy, he wasn't really upset with them, and if he had been in a better mood, he would have probably laughed and handled it completely differently, but right now he was upset about many things, Ram, May, and now his cheek was turning red where he'd poked himself with the grease pencil, and he was kind of put off by their demand to know if he was a giant. He wasn't that tall...was ( ... )

Anna watched him trying to figure him out and how to reply. She wsan't as smart as Willow, but knew how people were and could usually guess pretty well how they would react to what she said. "Well, Willow has books about giants and such so they have to exist, right? And it's not a silly question. Ryan says the only stupid questions are those that you don't ask." That made sense to Anna. She didn't always go around asking too many questions because she prefered to figure things out herself.

She turned to Flower after the faerie comment just knowing she would have a reply to that one. Flower was very imaginative and could come up with all sorts of stories good and bad. "Well, if you're not a giant then who are you?" Anna decided she was going to keep a log in her journal of all the Mallrats with their names, what she thought of them at first, how they really were, and then maybe other things about them as she discovered about the people that she now lived with.

Flower thought it wasn't nice to call the question silly, but Anna was quick to counter that before she got to feel upset. Then the guy came over, teasing them about being gnomes or fairies.
Enjoying herself completely, Flower put on her most innocent smile. "Why, of course we're fairies!" She lied through her teeth, managing to keep the smile innocent and not even laugh to give it away. "It's just that here in this world we wear our wings on the INSIDE, so we look just like other humans." She studied him, still curious and not wanting to give up the fantasy just yet. "Are you SURE you're not a giant?"

Dax had to hide his smile from the little girl, too cute, Mouse had competition. "Giants in books do not exist. They were much bigger than I or any man could ever be, they ate humans, and they don't exist. Tall men exist, and that's what I am, and I don't eat humans," Dax was kind of sensitive about his height, he always thought he was too tall, and he had revisited these feelings recently with May as she was quite petite and he often worried about compatibility, but they had worked that out quite well. This thought almost made him blush and he stood up, he could only crouch low for so long. "I never said the question was stupid, it was just silly," he reasoned.

He frowned however, and looked at the one named Flower, tilting his head, "Yes, I'm positive. It's not nice to tease people about their height, short or tall," he said kind of gruffly. "My name is Dax, I'm the Mallrats body guard," he told them simply, "What about you? What are you doing here at the Mall? New Mallrats? Are faeries allowed to be Mallrats?"

Anna smiled at Flower's story, atleast it was one of her better ones and an idea was forming in her head. She hadn't meant to upset him over the giant comment, but apparently he was. "I'm not teasing you." She apologized. "We've just never seen anyone so tall and so Mr. Dax Giant we are new faeries in the Mall and we're getting really hungry." She took Flower's hand in hers. "So we're going to find some lunch. Goodbye!" She dragged Flower at a half run back down to the closet where they had found their clothes and it didn't take her long to find what she was looking for. Fairy Wings! She took the blue ones and gave Flower the pink ones and then continued their journey down the hallway to the main part of the Mall.

'Mr. Dax Giant.' Flower giggled. She liked that. "Bye, Mr. Giant!" She called back to Dax as Anna dragged her back to the room full of clothes. She pulled on the fairy wings excitedly, bouncing around the room in them for a minute and watching over her shoulder as they fluttered on her back.
Happy with the new edition to their look she followed Anna back to the main part of the Mall. As they headed toward the cafe they'd seen earlier, she saw ahead of them Exactly Who She'd Been Hoping To Find.

Dax sighed when they called him Mr. Giant, he supposed out of all of the nicknames he could have, that one wasn't so bad. He moved back into his room and gathered his dirty clothes, stopping to look in the mirror at his face, giving himself a half smile, it really wasn't his fault he was so tall, and he should really be used to people pointing it out. He remembered back to the first time he met Charles, and then the Guardian...

"My word, you are a strapping young man! How tall are you boy?" Charles looked him up and down, watching his face for a reaction, making sure his eyes didn't travel down to meet his own ( ... )
