Name: "Michel" Tristan Deloupe
Shadow Name: Roland
Path: Moros
Order: Adamantine Arrow
Legacy: Perfected Adept

The idea for this character springs from the blasted landscape of the poem by Browning, Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came. As an Awakening story the knight in training's road to the Tower just fairly screamed to me. What the poem does not talk about is what happens to the knight after he trumpets his challenge to the Tower. So that is what I am going to try and explore.

Roland is known to be a student of Atlantean lore, seeking to pull together what knowledge of its fall he can from Artifacts and other sources of information. Despite his interest in the time of Atlantis, Roland does not believe that the city will be rebuilt someday or that Magi can bring back the past glories which some others desire. He believes instead that the Magi of the Free Council, who demonstrated their Awakened will with the Great Refusal, are the future from which a new age of magic will spring. He believes that reliance on a system of magic and belief, which has already been shown to have failed, is foolish. But by understanding that heritage of the Fallen City and learning from it he believes the mistakes which were made by the magi of that time might be avoided.
Roland's family had a strong magical tradition which they could trace back for centuries, until something terrible happened which caused the deaths of everyone save Roland. The Deloupe family trained its members to be guardians of the Sleepers and the Underworld. They had kept a vigil of knighthood which began in the 11th century to watch over the dead and the living, to keep all souls safe. They were almost completely slaughtered for it in one night of bloody revenge, and the survivors were hunted forever after. Roland's own family were the last, and most recent examples. Twice he has been attacked by the same enemies and survived, now he waits for the third.

Roland joined the Adamantine Arrow because of its role as protectors and warriors. His oaths are to defend his Cabal, as well as those more private oaths of his family. While he himself practices traditional Atlantean magic, Roland shows none of the disdain some others do for the Rotes and devices of the Free Council. Change comes from the dying of one thing and the birth of another, the passage of one to the other is time. He has also found himself on the path of the Perfected adept. He is exploring the interaction of Death and Life, the Mental and the Physical, but always with the goal of growing stronger to prepare for his last stand against the enemies of his family who will come again for him. Despite being a Master of Death and on the Council, Roland has no political aspirations. To him, his oaths are most important, and not the word of a Councilor or Hierarch. This has caused him problems on one or two occasions. At age 37 he sees himself as something of a mentor to the younger magi he knows.

Inspirations:

1. The titular character of "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came"
2. Auron from Final Fantasy X
3. Morpheus from The Matrix Trilogy

Looking for character ties, and background stuff. A history is forthcoming.
