I hope it's ok to post something like this O_O, I've been searching for a place where you can actually talk about the game for a while and suddenly thought to search again on LJ ( Read more... )

The Compilation(KH games and Dissidia games too) ruined many characters of FFVII, including Sephiroth and Cloud.
Cloud wasn't a depressed emo in the original game("Let's mosey" anyone?). And Sephiroth wasn't a Cloud-obssessed stalker(he used Cloud only to give him the Black-Materia and that's it).

Not to mention that the Compilation added a bunch of retcons to Sephiroth's backstory that made his descend into madness completely unbelievable. I mean, in the original game, from what we saw from flashbacks, Sephiroth was supposed to be a quiet, calm, and COLD individual(much closer to his personality during the game). And he was a very solitary person too(no one was close to him in strength and fame).
But then the Compilation came, and showed us that there were TWO other people(Angeal and Genesis) exactly like him(at the same level, or close to it), completely ignoring the fact that Sephiroth's loneliness(due to his power and fame) was a very important part of his character and backstory, and something that probably contributed to him going mad. And they made him a more likeable person than in the flashback of the original game, too.
In the end, all these things make his descend into madness, and his cruel and cold personality thereafter, hard to swallow.

I really liked the CC Sephiroth, but I have to agree with you - I used to imagine him as relatively antisocial and schizotype/schizoid before the Nibelheim incident and thought that he just found something he might do and kind of liked after he learned about Jenova and himself (destroy the planet, be God, look down on mankind...). I never imagined him as nice and caring and gone mad because of traumatic experiences :S
