Death
I have some sad news (for those of you who havn't already read Matt's journal). Our sweet little ratties Rollie and Nutmeg have both passed on. :( It seems they both had a viral infection that caused them to get a respiratory disease. They experienced very laboured breathing that was very frightening and uncomfortable for them, and very difficult for Matt and I to see as we were limited in what we could do to help them. We came up with some home solutions and did what we could to make them as comfortable as possible. The remedies can be viewed, along with a picture of the two of them, in Matt's journal
here . They were both very sweet, happy little munchkins and I will miss them very much.. especially Nutmeg's happy rat chirps while tangling herself up in my hair. ~sniff~
Life
As some of you may know, we have baby pigeons living on our balcony. We first had them last year and instead of getting rid of them, as suggested by many, we chose to let them be until they grew up and no longer needed their nest. The nest was swept away, the birdies were grown up and happy and they hung around for the summer. It seems this year the same family returned for new babies. We like to refer to the family as "Pimp Daddy Pidge and his Peeps" :) We have been watching them little ones up for some time now and watched them fly for the first time just the other day. One of them definetely shows more confidence than the other.
The same time we've been watching the Peeps, we've noticed some other little black birds frequenting our balcony, often carrying sticks and twigs. We couldn't see a nest anywhere. I decided 2 days ago that I was going to investigate the matter and thought that maybe they were using the bbq (we don't use it cuz it's illegal for apartments) and this is what I saw.
Just before I opened it....
I believe my words were "what the fuck" when I saw this...
We wanted to find out how they were getting into their super structure but the only hole I saw was in the top of the haystack
meep! Scary to know there's like a whole society living in our bbq.
Now if you look down and to your right you'll see THE PEEPS. I didn't want to get too close at first cuz they're much more afraid of me than their parents are
But when they settled down a bit I got a little closer and got this cute little portrait.
Then the brave one flew away, leaving the sweet, shy one behind. Awwww
P.S- Today is (well technically it's yesterday now) Maffew's Birfday So..
Happy Birthday Matt!! I LOVE YOU. Weeee :)
I know I've wished him a happy birthday... have youuuu?
