whoa, whoa, whoa. I think you need to look at this from a different perspective. certainly there is the issue of women's rights. I'd be pretty angry if I felt that the government were telling me how to treat my body.
but to play devil's advocate here, look at where pro-lifers are coming from. while someone who is in support of an abortion sees it as a way to protect the mother from the residual effects of rape (or in some cases, the consequences of not taking full precautions before, during, or after sex), someone who is against abortions sees abortions as the ending of an innocent young life.
completely removed from the subject of abortion, killing babies is sick, wrong, and disgusting. since people with pro-life views see life starting at the moment of conception, for all intents and purposes, through their ideological scope, abortion is the murder of a baby.
with this in mind, it's easy to see why someone with pro-life views would be concerned when the government rules that abortions are legal. from a pro-life p.o.v., a ruling like that would look like the government ok-ing murder of babies. infantcide. so long as it was performed by a licensed medical professional.
I'm not saying that pro-life is right. I'm not even trying to convince you that pro-choice is wrong. I'm just saying that maybe you shouldn't waste so much energy on rage so that there's some to spend on understanding and working to compromise. last i heard, all they did was uphold the ban on partial birth anyway. what's so frustrating about that?
Haha, I completely forgot about this post_cityskysApril 22 2007, 14:48:13 UTC
I usually delete these but then we went away to NJ so I forgot to
I don't feel as if religion or the government should be a part of it, on either side.
I don't like the competition between both sides. What it seems to be is, half the time it's over who's right, not the actual action.
I can't imagine forcing such an issue to having a single national opinion.
Honestly, if you've carried the child that long, then just go through with birth. My problem with it was that pro-lifers are taking this action as the first stepping stone to making all abortions illegal.
Another thing that bothers me; acting in one's right to take away another's right. This country is founded on having liberties, freedoms, and rights, and I get disgusted then one side of an issue fights to take away the rights of the other side [any issue], regardless of my feelings
