hi, i found you through Maryam's LJ. I'm just commenting because you look like me sort of...enough for it to be kind of unsettling...weird, huh?

Hey, I just noticed that you attended DePaul for a while. Were the profs okay? Or were they the reason you transferred, ha ha. I applied there for grad school:)

Yup, I absolutely loved DePaul... or rather, I loved living in Chicago! It was my freshman year of college, so it's kind of hard to compare/judge the quality of the professors, I guess. Looking back on it now, I'd say the profs were so-so. In comparison to where I am now (a "lesser known" state university that, in the past, has gotten a mediocre reputation, but in reality, is an AMAZING institution), I think it's definitely the case that a LARGE part of DePaul's outrageous tuition is simply for the name of the school, rather than the quality of education. I had several graduate students teaching my classes (not assistants, they were the actual profs, and they were highly unimpressive), and a few full professors who were just ridiculous (no work at all, pointless classes that lacked anything challenging, etc.). But at the same time, there are a few profs that I had there that really stand out - one will remain in my "top profs" of my entire college career, he was incredible. SO, whether the not-so-good profs I had were more a function ( ... )
