OOOOooOOoo Friday the 13th!....Scary.

Oct 13, 2006 14:08

I love how Friday the 13th has always been so notorious. The fact that this one came during October (the "scariest" month of the year) makes me wonder if today is a super-charged Friday the 13th. I've always felt that 13 was my lucky number...just because no one else seemed to want it. Anyway!...

I haven't updated in over a month again. It sure isn't because of a lack of things to write about. Quite a bit has happened since I last posted...AWA was definitely a big event.

My feelings about AWA are mixed. I think I enjoyed myself more this year than I did the last few years. It was the first time in a while that I didn't bring anyone "new to the scene". Like Becca mentioned over in her journal a while ago...it can be a real hassle when you feel like you have to make sure everyone is having a good time. This year I didn't so much care how other people were doing (to an extent at least).

AWA has kind of been "my big thing" every year. I've been to...ummm...9 of them now? Yea that's right because the first time I went was freshman year of high school. Let me tell you...a LOT has changed. For one thing I'm no longer chaperoned by my mother. If you think you've been embarrassed by your mother...you obviously didn't take her to an anime convention when you were a teenager. -_-; The venue is stupidly big compared to what it used to be. The attendance is retardedly bigger than it used to be. The first time I went we got a hotel room in the main hotel in SEPTEMBER. I haven't been in the main hotel since sophomore year of college. Every year they sell out sooner and sooner. I think I might try to make my reservation for next year on January 1, 2007...just so I have a chance.

Enough reminiscing...back to the present. Hmmm...oh! This was also the first year I didn't actually buy any anime. There are two reasons for that. 1) Most anime can be obtained for free these days’ months before it ever gets licensed by an american company. 2) Anime used to be cheaper at conventions but with online sales and places like Best Buy...even when the dealers give you a discount it’s still too expensive. All I bought was a t-shirt (I have to get at least one every year), some Yu Yu Hakusho plushies (be mindful of what anime you're obsessed with before going to a con), a mass-produced Hellsing cell to hang on my wall, and a few presents for someone (you know who you are XP). Basically now I look for things I can't really get day-to-day.

A few other things... We missed the SCIII tourney. Brett and I were pretty pumped about it but somehow we had convinced ourselves it was Saturday without actually checking. It was alright though because after playing some people there Saturday I'm not sure I would have stood a chance anyway. It was a humbling experience...but also exciting. ^_^; All of the main activities were entertaining (Anime Hell, Midnight Madness, the AMV contest, and the costume contest). We had the Night of Alcohol and Hentai....which is rapidly becoming tradition. For the most part it seemed that everyone enjoyed themselves...even without me trying to ensure it. XP

Wow...I talked a lot more about that then I planned. >_<

Let's see...other stuff. My mom came up a few weeks ago. She wanted to get me a sports coat and some new dress clothes for my future interviews. My career search has been less than productive thanks to the numbnuts down at Career Services. Blah… My brother came that weekend too and we saw Jackass 2 (fucking hilarious). All three of us had a nice dinner at Outback. The poor waitress...she was having a really bad night.

A week ago today I was just starting my Fall Break vacation. Thanks to classes being canceled on Friday I was free for 5 days! It was rather busy though...

On Friday my dad visited me and we had lunch with Brett. It was nice...although I'm constantly reminded that my father and I are on different wave lengths. Chris and he always just seem a lot more compatible. Maybe if I was into stuff like golf it would help more. XP Though...we did have an interesting discussion about MMO's (that is when he wasn't questioning me about school, my future career, and my love life >_<). Also went and saw The Departed (best movie since V for Vendetta this year. Go see it!)

On Saturday my brother came and we went to the Widespread Panic concert. Now I'll admit that I'm not usually into the rock and roll "jam band" scene. I don't care who you are though...WSP knows how to do a concert. I really enjoyed it last year and this year was just as good. Just being around a throng of drunk/stoned new age hippies is pretty entertaining...even without the music. O_o

Sunday through Tuesday afternoon I was in Statesboro. I got to see Lauren, Amanda, Kyle, Josh, and ironically Brett and D (who spent a few days down there visiting as well). I'll admit it was a little boring on Monday when Lauren and everyone else had to go to classes. I managed to amuse myself with comics and the PSP. I <3 DC comics. Marvel was there for me as a young person...but I have moved on to better things. XP

That's about it for catching people up on the last month or so. I left out a few things...like Friday night gaming with "the kids". We usually get together on Friday's to play fighting games. I'm not sure if it’s on for tonight...but if it is I'll be there. ^_^

Oh...the new group activity is Dawn of War btw. Pretty much every one of the guys bought the Dark Crusade expansion this week. If anyone that reads this ever wants to play just let me know. ^_^V Sorry for anyone that was looking for something meaningful...but an update is all I got for now. See ya!
