twilight zoned

watching the 'to serve man' episode of the twilight zone before going to sleep while utterly exhausted can produce some fucked up dreams...

so, i'm stuck in a quasi black and white dream that's a dead ringer for some 50's sci-fi movie.
apparently, a space mission at some point lands us on a planet of hyper-advanced beings. they're peaceful, semi-non corporeal and can appear virtually anywhere they wish. apparently, i was one of the scientists attached to the mission. the initial contact goes well, but the aliens begin to mistrust our intentions when different factions of earth begin to bicker of trade... and the pace of it.
after a short honeymoon of good relations and being part of a new Institute of Science (complete with pipe-smoking Bob Dobbs-esque coworkers) in some remote part of the US we get sidelined as the US military - and their scientists - take things over.
The dream advances, it's 5 years later... the Institute is a shadow of its former self - we're apparently doing tours and shows for local schools, living off my fading notoriety. Then, one of the aliens appears to me with a message... "do not return to our world" and then fades away. We try to find out what the government is up to but we're then overrun by helicopters and military personnel. It seems the US military is going to test the capabilities of our 'friends' by staging the assassination of the corporeal representative to the UN using a homemade bomb and blaming it on some radical anti-alien faction. Apparently, they want to see if they can just take the tech from the aliens by force. So, they're back to pick my brains about their capabilities and maybe use my link with them to their advantage ... or at least make sure I'm not warning them.
The general and his entourage leave and a fellow scientist announces (in bold, melodramatic fashion, raising his hand) "It's back to work! I'm going to take the energy out of gasoline!" and then storms out towards his lab. (presumably, they thought the bomb would be made out of some derivitive of gasoline)

God, I love dreams.
