Well the leaves have started to crumble
Scatter, break and disintegrate
They are a dead mass of discolored brown
All moisture dried and leaked out
Now we have nothing in which to fall.
The
concrete
now
bare.
But small white flakes are starting to drop
Frost will precipitate on us all
It shall build and build
on the freshly frozen pavement.
Now we wait, on opposite sides of town,
as snow drowns everything in its white.
We will stare out the window
in our warmly heated houses
while wondering the same thing...
Winter's change brings a beautiful cold
some cannot last the bare deadness of all
others put their lives on hold for a while
barely concious, caved in from reality
But we're awake, and experiencing
nothing can protect us from all the drafts
leaking under our doors at night
the chill invades when we're most vulnerable
and these freezing winter nights
are what bring
the all encompassing drifts
So come gently snow
and blanket everything in the purest of white
hide all that is wrong with your gentle flakes
and remain untouched and smooth
do not melt away...
and reveal to us another dark,
dreary,
grey,
winter day...
