Goodbye sephora?!?!
alright sooo heres the lowdown. There's a chance that i'm going to be getting another job. I'm totally embarassed about where it is but this is what I want to do for there rest of my life and you gotta start some where. So it's SIRENS, OMG i said it!!! FUCK, i haven't bought anything from that fucking store since i was in gr9! ok whatever. But it's not retail it's at head office which isn't as bad. I mean it is still embarassing to say i work for sirens, but it's not like i'm standing around the cheeseball store for 8 hours wearing narsty cotton-polyester fitted flares.
An ex-co-worker of mine works there and she's trying to get me in. She's a buyer for them and that's exactly what I want to do. I'll be taking Fashion Merchandising in college and I knew I wanted to do this from the start, if i was to do anything else I would probably shoot myself. Don't get me wrong, I'm not stupid! I know it's impossible to make it in the "fashion industry" that's why I'm trying to get in on it now, and move up while I'm young. The only sad thing is that I might have to quit sephora if it is full-time. Which I don't want to do. I love working there, and I especially love who I work with. At the same time if I do leave that means I won't be able to open, and work at the Bloor Location next year. That's right you heard me sephora is opening a front store next to Louis Vuitton (well, that's where I hear it will be) Anyways, it's sad I know, just because it's going to be an amazing store, but at least i know i'll always have the choice to come back if things don't work out. And if they do maybe i could still work at sephora 1 or 2 times a week.
Now, before you decide to yack in your mouth or die of laughter, I know it sounds like a retarded call to trade up sephora for sirens, but this is why I'm willing to risk it. You see my cousin's wife worked for sirens as a manager for years, and if you see this chick, she is gorgeous and stylin. She looks like a model, and you would never think she worked for sirens. anyways she was going to quit since she knew she was getting no where, then she was offered to move up, which she did. So she became a buyer for them, then she was offered a position as the head buyer for Reitmans. That's where she is now, and she's making crazy money. She gets to travel, and they bought her a car and everything. She promised my cousin and me, that when we finished our fashion programs she would get us jobs. Basically, the point is I have the opportunity now.
Unfortunately, I'm not applying for a buyers position but as a fit model. And I have, if not exactly, but nearly the closest measurements to their needs. I was like wtf is a fit model so i looked it up and this is what I found:
Fitting model: If you're someone who's a perfect size fill-in-the-blank and has dimensions that match fashion industry standards -- "plus," "petite" and "big and tall" sizes included -- you may find work as a fitting model with a clothing company or clothes designer.
The job involves modeling outfits in a manufacturer's showroom and letting the designers, clothes makers and buyers know what works and what doesn't about an outfit, for example, how it falls and how it feels, said Darryl Roberrts, men's director for modeling agency The Lyons Group.
The most successful fitting models who make six figures know how clothes are made, know how different fabrics behave, and are very knowledgeable about the line they're modeling. In fact, many have degrees in pattern-making, said Susan Levine, owner of Model Service Agency, LLC.

"The model is the one that gives (designers and seamstresses) the direction of how to make the garment," Levine said. "The model can make or break your sales."
While you don't need perfect cheekbones or the face of Catherine Deneuve, you do have to be attractive and clean-looking. "You need to project a certain image," Levine said.
And there is one requirement that can be very tough to meet: "You have to maintain your size at all times," Roberrts noted.
A successful fitting model can earn between $750 and $1,500 a day, Roberrts noted. On an hourly basis, you might earn between $200 and $275, Levine said. And you might work three-to-five days a week, for between five and eight hours a day.
I stole that off a website. Ok now that's a successful fit model, and it sounds pretty damn sweet. I obviously wont be paid that much but it will definitely be waaaay more than what sephora is paying me. The other bonus is that most of the buying team at sirens started off as fit models.
Anywhoo, I'm really excited and I want this soo badly so wish me luck. If this doesnt work out I'll be totally bummed, but then i could stay at sephora and work on bloor st =D
