Heh. I read pretty fast, and sometimes I wish I could read slower, so everything wouldn't be over so fast! But I can't slow down much without interrupting the reading flow. (If I really want to savour something I reread a passage several times, and sometimes linger over a single sentence or so. But the overall speed doesn't change that much.)

I think we just have a natural reading speed ...

(I can't do audiobooks at all, btw. It's the same text, only stretched... out ... about ... six ... or ... seven ... times ... as ... long! My mind starts drifting away within the first few minutes. So I suck at listening, I suppose!)

I guess, everyone has a natural reading speed, but I think you can train to read faster. Like with typing, you can train to type faster. Just, I always failed at training myself to read faster.

ETA: I suck at listening too. Audiobooks are not for me, because I'm more of a visual person and I just don't remember much of the things that I listened to. That's why also don't listen to podfic. Reading is more fun to me anyway.

I'm one of those 100 books a year people, because I read fast. But my best friend? Maybe ten if she's lucky. She's a slow reader, and she admits it. Doesn't stop us from talking about books. I think the important thing is just that you READ.

Yeah, I can't imagine not reading at all. My boss doesn't read at all, she doesn't see the point and I just don't get that at all.

i always considered myself to be a fairly slow, reader until pretty recently, when i found out i actually read sorta fast. what a pleasant surprise! still, definitely not a book a day person! maybe if i didn't need to work or sleep i could be, but... would i even want to read that much? anyway, i signed up for for a reading challenge on goodreads that averages out to a book a week, and as long as i don't get obsessed with a new fandom, i'm pretty confident i'll make it. if a new fandom takes hold, though, all bets are off!

I did the reading challenge on goodreads a few years, but it feels kind of weird and dumb to challenge myself to read 5 books in a year, which is probably something I can manage (I read 6 books last year). I mean, the amount of books I read are of course directly influenced by how much I'm still into my current fandom, but still 5 books seems not really a lot at all.

I read fast, but also sloppy - I sometimes think I should somehow train myself to be a bit more thorough. I e.g. never know chapter titles, because I fly right over them. And when we read Billard um halb zehn (at least I think that was it?) at school, the teacher suddenly started talking about a boar, and everyone joined into the interpretation of the boar, and I had zero memory at all about there being any pigs walking around despite really having done the reading homework ... O.o It turned out it was a dead one hanging in front of a butchery, and I had only registered "gross location ( ... )

Heh, whoops about the boar. ;)

I don't have a problem reading fanfiction on my Kindle during my lunch break at the office. Although, sometimes it's a bit weird, when I'm reading a hot sex scene. ;D
Reading during my commute would not go well in any case! ;D

I love reading too! I used to just read fanfiction for years, but in the past year I've gotten back into reading actual books. I've collected quite a bit of books, but I would rather have the book on hand then not be able to get it later. I would consider myself a fast reader, I can read a book in one day if I have the time. I don't think it really matters how fast or slow you read though, just as long as you continue to read anything.

How many books I manage to read definitely depends on how into a fandom I am at the moment. The more fanfiction I read, the less books I read. Sometimes it's just a bit frustrating, I guess.
