I found this
poll via
metafandom and I have to admit it's kind of weird to me that there are apparently people who think fandom is just a phase that'll end eventually. Fandom could never be just a phase to me.
As long as I can remember I've always been a media fan. It started when I was a little kid that was glued to the TV, because Star Trek was on and it continued with obsessing about other TV shows and reading tons of tie-in-books, making up stories in my head, etc. For a long time I felt like a freak (my dad was a SF fan as well, but never to that level of obsession). But when I found other people like me, I finally felt like I belonged. I don't think I could ever give that up.
I've been in fandom half my life and honestly, I wouldn't even know what to do with myself if I didn't have that anymore. What do "normal" people do anyway?
And now, I'm going to watch the box fight of the year... Regina Halmich vs. Stefan Raab ;-).
