after buying a drink jaynie walked to her next class. excited because she was a few minutes early. she always felt like she was a little ahead of the rest of the class if she got there early. she sat in her desk, the same one as every day. she knew exactly who would sit next to her too. she liked this certainty. she had always enjoyed the familiar. she felt prepared and enthused. ready to discuss todays topic. she tried to ignore the slight discomfort because of the unfamiliar face in class today. she was ok though. she could handle a change in moderation. class was about to start and her friend entered the room walking toward the empty seat that was saved for her. jaynie didnt pay much attention to the girl because she knew exactly what was to happen. the girl would pull out the chair of the desk directly next to her and sit down. she'd prolly ask for a sip of the dr.pepper jaynie had and then class would start. but something strange happened. the girl kept walking. past jaynie and further down the row. jaynie looked back to see why. maybe there was a quarter on the floor that her friend was going to pick up and after it was retrieved she would come back and sit next to jaynie. but this wasnt the case at all. the girl sat down in a different seat. jaynie was soo confused. then she realized why this had happened. her friend wasnt interested in sitting next to her this day because of a certain boy waiting in the back of class. her friend sat down next to him. jaynie slowly turned back around. she felt so lonely. she glanced at the desk next to her, which remained unoccupied for the remainder of the period. she felt as if this boy had replaced her. she felt like her friend didnt need her anymore. jaynie had once provided smiles, laughter, and encouragement but now this boy was supplying her friend with enough. she no longer needed jaynie to make her happy or feel loved. the girl had someone to fulfill those needs. but jaynie didnt have anyone. and when you dont have anyone no one cares that you dont have anyone.
