psychiatry is a crock of shit

after juggling doctor's appointments and therapy, i finally found a psychiatrist who would accept my insurance, and who was also accepting new patients. dr. leeland jones on harlem road. i walked into the most ghetto excuse for a dr's office i have ever seen.

this morning i read a review of him online:
Anonymous
This is not a REAL psychiatrist. This doctor is a wolf in sheep's clothing. He starts off caring, but look out - he's only trying to convert you to his religion. My last visit with him ended with him praying for me and trying to get me to attend his church. Considering the fact that I am not a religious person, this was truly shocking and not at all what I came to him for. Unless you want to meet Jesus, stay away from this doctor!!!!!!!

yikes! so obviously after having read that, i was quite alarmed.
my appointment was at 2:30, so being a good patient, i arrived early at 2:15 to fill out required paperwork. after filling out said paperwork, i sat in his waiting room for TWO HOURS and fifteen minutes. so finally at 4:30 he saw me, and did exactly what this review accused him of.

he asked me what medicine i was taking for my anxiety, so i told him, 0.25 mg of alprazolam.

".25 mg of xanax? well that's nothing more than a placebo. but i guess placebos work for some people. that can't be any stronger than a cup of chamomile tea! have you ever drank chamomile tea? and what did it do?"

then he went on to talk about how he is speaking at a black sorority this saturday about the "7 gifts"

"according to the bible, there are 7 gifts. each and every one of us has at least one of these gifts."

he suggested mine was sensitivity to other people. he said since i don't know how to use this gift that the anxiousness is just "building up" inside of me, and i need to "pray it out."

then at the end of our session he says, well maybe i can pray for you. so i said, right now? and he said yes. i declined politely, with a smirk on my face, and he got so mad that he got up from his chair and walked out of the room, in silence.

jesus.
