SO I'm sitting here at school all ready to go to class, check my email, and find out its cancelled! Which is cool I guess, but now I'm stuck here for 2.5 hours with nothing to do - I would have almost rather gone to class to have something to do. ugh ( Read more... )

I completely understand. My mom can get out of hand at times, but then again your mother has been like this your entire life. You can't expect her to change, though she really should. Possibly, you could go the route of "You don't want to be involved. Fine with me." and let her come to her senses in her own time. That or sit down and talk to her about the way you feel about it. It's your wedding and there are plenty of other things for her to help out with. Hell, you didn't buy the dress without her, you just found one that you like and might buy. (BTW, which shop did you go to?) As far as eloping goes, I don't think this crisis is enough to drive you to that. Think about what is most important to you about your wedding. Do you want to have as many friends and family as possible with you? Elopement is no good. Do you want to have a very small intimate gathering with only you and Derek? Elopement could work. If you want to plan something in the future, but not here: Destination wedding.

OK, long. Hope this helps!

thanks tristi - I appreciate it. My mom has never been the talking type. If I were to sit down and say, mom we need to talk about this, she would say I was silly and not hear another word I said. I will probably just end up threatening her and us getting really mad at one another and then she just up and pretend it never happened... better the circumstance or not. It sucks though.

We went to Gabrielle's in Drusilla shopping center. Its a little hole in the wall, and the old name is still on the roof area, Classic Bride, but the owner worked with us and she was so nice and helpful. And she made a point to get different dresses, not just what you see in all the other stores. And the quality was very good, like Pearl's Place as opposed to David's Bridal, which I did not care for. I'm just soooo glad I didn't order from Pearl's Place. Thank God huh?

Yeah, if I had ordered closer to the date, I'd be worried. But Pearl's is actually in good shape. They evacuated all of their stock and the owners are in Houston right now working on logistics. They are contacting all of their brides about their dresses and some are getting the dresses shipped directly to them. I just wonder about my alterations...

I haven't been to Gabrielle's but I'm glad you had a good experience there! I've heard bad things about Bridal Boutique, but I understand the rest are all OK places to go to. You may also want to try D'Lei's on Jefferson near Parkview Baptist, Jeannine's on North Harrell's Ferry by Sherwood and Dress 2 the 9's (not sure where that one is).

Yea we went to Bridal Boutique and it was so chaotic in there, no one even said I word to us for 5 minutes although we were standing at the counter, and when we saw they didn't do ANY alterations, we said forget it. We did go to D-Lei's also, and I wasn't very impressed with them. THey almost looked like a consignment shop - haha that is horrible but true. We were too tired to make it to Jeannine's, although it was on our list.

what have you heard about bridal boutique?? (you can tell I dont have alot to do right now - haha)

A friend of mine ordered her bms dresses from them; they forgot who she was, lost her card and screwed up her order. Just not a pleasant experience. I've heard other people have had the same problems with them.

If you do go to Jeannine's don't get confused. The right hand side of the store is a consignment shop called second glance. The left hand side has the bridal and bridesmaids gowns (also a lot of prom dresses too), which are not consignment. They have really good sales, but those are usually on their sample dresses. They do have really decently-priced order dresses, too though.
