Dear Yuletide Author

I can't quite believe it's Yuletide time again but apparently it is(!) so, welcome! I'm really looking forward to reading what you come up with, because I love Yuletide and these fandoms and characters/people.

I am astralis at AO3 and tallshipandstar at Tumblr, which is where I spend most of my fannish time these days. My Tumblr is mostly skating centric these days, which is more a reflection of how much there is of these fandoms on Tumblr and not my feelings about one over the other.

Generally, I love stories that fall somewhere on the spectrum between "fluff" and "angst" (how's that for vague?) and prefer a positive or happy ending. I'm a sucker for physical affection, platonic or otherwise - cuddling, bed-sharing, hand-holding, you name it. I also adore chosen and found family stories, friendship fic, and characters saving the day, or just making it through the day. I'd prefer it if the fic stayed away from rape, non-canonical character death, and graphic sex/violence, just because those aren't really my thing.

I would love anything focusing on these two together and their relationship or either of them individually.

I am so sad that their storylines were mostly based around them as an extension of the Mason men and would love something about these two that's not about who they are (or are not) dating. I actually love Anne and Tom's relationship and don't really care about Hal and Maggie (or Ben and Maggie) and I'm not opposed to any of that making its way into the story if that's where it goes.

I'd love anything set during or post series, whether it's Maggie and Anne surviving life with the Second Mass or figuring out a way to live in the post-war world. (It's good to know that priorities after the war ended included clothes that fit, curling irons and matching pins, but what was it REALLY like?) Does Maggie ever regret getting rid of her spikes? Does she have any lingering after effects? How does Anne deal with her return from the dead, when so many other people didn't get to come back? What happened to their relationship after Maggie removed her spikes against Anne's objections - how do they reconcile their differences (Anne feeling that Maggie didn't trust her, Maggie feeling that Anne saw her as a weapon first)?

If you're into worldbuilding type stuff I'd love something set in Charleston or post war or really at any point that focuses on their day to day lives and how those communities function - both the practicalities of life but also ways of making life bearable or even pleasant like the choir in Charleston.

Also this may sound contrary to what I said above about the Masons - but one thing I wanted from the show and never felt I really got was Anne and Maggie being accepted into the Mason family because of who they were and not because of who they were dating. There was that scene at one point where Matt asked if he could call Anne Mom sometimes... and then never did! So if that's something you're interested in writing I'd love to read it.

I would love anything for these two, whether it's shipfic or bffs-for-life gen, slice of life and domestic fluff or wild and wacky adventures - really, if you have something you want to write, please write it! Include any other skaters you want to include (Team DSC, Team Canada, whatever). What I love best about them is the strength of their relationship, the huge respect they have for each other, their easy physical affection and the ability to be together apparently almost constantly and still enjoy and appreciate each other.

If you're looking for a more specific prompt here's a few ideas:

- tour or holiday hijinks (eg Stars on Ice, The Ice this year, that group trip they took to Mexico this summer)
- something set post retirement - do they keep living together? How do they deal with the shift in their relationship?
- I have a weird craving for a fic where Andrew loses his heart to a kitten, I don't even know why
- also, I love AUs for this fandom. Space AU or some kind of dance academy AU or (again with the weird things I want for no real reason) reality show AU where they're a team on one of those shows where contestants have to makeover houses while living with them and competing against their neighbours.

In terms of RPF, I'm a little uncomfortable reading stories that have a heavy focus on people who aren't public figures in their own right and minors.

I adore Verity and would love anything starring her - wild time travel adventures, her life as a historian, her relationship with Ned, getting used to having a kitten around... the possibilities are endless with this series so please go wild! I love how smart she is and she probably would have been just fine without Ned, and I adore a girl who can quote Gaudy Night.

I'd love Verity exploring Oxford at another time, discovering the way things have changed, and the way things haven't, or maybe Verity taking another young historian under her wing and taking them on their first trip through the net. Or Verity in her own future - what kind of relationship do these time travelling historians have with the passing of their own time?

I read Blackout/All Clear last year (or the year before?) and Doomsday Book some years ago but don't love them with the passion I have for To Say Nothing of the Dog - if you want to include things from any of those books go for it, I might not pick up on tiny details but I'll recognise the characters.

Thank you, Yuletide author! Whatever you end up writing, I really hope you enjoy it as much as I'm looking forward to reading it.
