i had the loveliest morning. after piecing together the news that there wasn't yet a strike, well sort of, but there might be one later, or possibly at any moment, we successfully utilized the MTA to get to my parents' house. my mom made us what she called egg mcmuffins, but were actually something from a different dimension of edibility (buttered toasted english muffin, bacon, scrambled egg, tomato, and sharp sharp cheddar, slid briefly under the broiler). yum. then we tackled the christmas tree. first, of course, the all-important discussion of Where It Should Be and Which Side Is The Front. then ender took charge of the lights, i crowned it with the heirloom angel and grandma-made star (one's like a background for the other), and as usual we started with the glass ornaments, then the silver, and then the random ones lying around in unusual corners of boxes. then sweeping up the needles and laying down the tree skirt (also grandma-made, depicting the twelve days of christmas), and then starting to fill the space beneath with the presents i brought. they look so nice! also, obviously, we listened to the muppets & john denver singing carols together. and the tree part of the morning took 90 minutes flat, which was good since everybody had to rush off in different directions. but now we're all set for my mom's dinner on sunday, which is the important thing. (actually, the important thing is that my parents both admired my wrapping prowess, but being all set is good too.) oh! and on the way there we were early, since the MTA was shockingly well-behaved, and so i stopped on the way and bought my last christmas present! SCORE.
then i came to work for my half-day, and my boss is not here yet, and my new shoes arrived, and the sun is shining, and there is a TON of free, corporate-sponsored food of all kinds EVERYWHERE here. crazy. also, i think i love this time out film critic, joshua rothkopf, because he said kong kinda missed the point and munich was amazing. a critic who agrees with my hunches twice in a row? can it be true? perhaps i imagined it.
