yeah, i didn't see brokeback mountain yet. every time i try to not make plans and let things happen, what happens is that i have a nice relaxed day not at all doing the thing i hoped would just happen. for example, yesterday, instead of going to one of the three theatres in the entire city that are apparently showing the flick, we went on a long walk along the water, bought a combination wedding/christmas present for my recently-married cousin (you know what? a shiny waffle iron works for all occasions!), then came home and watched most of the last week's worth of the daily show / the colbert report while eating the most beautiful mexican food either of us has had since new mexico. it's from literally next door, but in the year we've been living here we'd never ordered from there before b/c it's so much more expensive than badly-made cheap grub from a few blocks down. but you know what, i'm throwing that other menu away, b/c this stuff is FABULOUS. YUM.

i am also too busy b/c i'm slated to attend five holiday parties in six days, is that too many? scored free champagne and hors d'oeuvres at our consultants' party on friday, went to a dear friend's open house on saturday (she has the entire top floor of a brownstone in carroll gardens/cobble hill -- why didn't *i* think to have parents who own a building?), and tomorrow and wednesday are two separate parties for work (all-staff and departmental). tonight i am actually going to the new york wellesley club holiday party, which, um, i wasn't expecting to do. it turns out my boss, also an alum, knows the woman hosting it, so we're going. i will be sure to let you know if anything exciting happens, but i bet it doesn't!

also, last night TCM aired all of me, which i've never seen, and dead men don't wear plaid, which ender has never seen, and due to the beauty of the DVR, i snagged both of them for later viewing, probably during my week off (we're always closed christmas eve through new year's day). and tomorrow night i've set up the original king kong to tape, which seems especially important since i've made the radical decision not to go see the new one. it just doesn't grab me, and it's annoying that they remade it in the first place, not to mention retaining all those charming racist overtones. but i totally want to see the old one again. go figure. now if you'll excuse me, i have to go buy some tiny fruit tarts for someone's birthday, b/c that's the kind of place where i work!

before i go, did i mention that in order to make my schedule, my mom's, and my dad's all fit together like the jigsaw pieces they are, i'm taking a half-day on friday to decorate the christmas tree with them? the punchline is that it may end up being the *first* half of the day, which would mean decorating 10am-noon and then coasting in to work in the afternoon. ah, the things i do to struggle with colored lights and sing along to the muppets w/john denver. i figure, as long as my mom keeps her promise to buy this year's tree from a Reputable Establishment, meaning not the church on the corner, so we can avoid last year's joy of discovering an old bird's nest and far too many spiders inhabiting the branches, it's all to the good. *shudder*
