I had no intention of having an eventful evening tonight. I was planning on vegetating and recovering from my endless sneezing yesterday. But no.

Turns out Max had fallen down the next door neighbour's chimney, probably some time this morning. I caught him mewing whilst trying to bring in the washing. Thank god Phil decided to hang it out, because generally I've been slack and using the dryer lately.

Cue much climbing on the roof and high levels of anxiety. He was stuck a good 2 metres down, probably 2.5. The neighbours weren't home, of course. Firemen were called, but advised they couldn't do much without anyone home. More anxiety, more climbing. Mostly on Phil's part - my tolerance for roof-climbing turns out to be limited. Eventually extensive attempts to insert lengthy climbable items down the chimney culminated in Max realising that the cushion from the outdoor furniture could be utilised with claws, and his eventual recovery. The helpful firemen turned up approximately 30 seconds later, and were advised that thankfully they were no longer needed.

Max is now very sooty. He had a serious pig-out after his experience, and wandered off somewhere to avoid me chasing him with a damp cloth for much longer.

Funnily enough, we're both having a few drinks now.
