On Shopping;

For some inexplicable reason, Dublin - voted second worst-dressed metropolitan in Europe (in accordance with the long-standing general sentiment) - is paying host to Scott Schuman, and hopefully Garance Doré ♥, this weekend. I am so excited my heart is literally pounding twice as fast than normal as I'm typing this. Thank goodness I bought my copy of The Sartorialist on Amazon for cheap because everything in Dublin comes at an exorbitant price! And what now with his coming! I think they'll be priced a third more expensive than what I got it for!

Sigh, shopping in Europe. For anyone who cares about such things...

At the current exchange rate, it is far more economical to shop in the weakened GBP as opposed to EUR. Nevertheless, Dublin offers students discounts at all the main high street stores (Topshop, Warehouse, Vero Moda etc.) and offers a no-minimum-purchase tax refund on all items, save for food and children's wear. That works out to a pretty sweet deal for students, I think. I bought the Christopher Kane for Topshop black studded leotard from the website and got a 10% student discount plus a 12.5% VAT refund from my local Topshop branch after showing them the print-out receipt. That makes shopping at high street brands in Dublin way cheaper than in Singapore...

On top of that, there are sale events like the Topshop Student Shop tomorrow and the day after, which offers a 20% storewide discount. With the 12.5% tax refund on top of the already discounted items, international students pay a third cheaper than the retail price! Sweet.

Aside from price reductions, the sheer variety of sizes (UK4!) and styles is mind-blowing. It makes me happy just window shopping and going home with outfits in my head.

I guess the above few paragraphs were written to justify whatever I've bought over here... But honestly, everyone loves a bargain and the shopping deals are sweet!

Okay, end of this frivolous entry.

ireland, shopping
