Dasha is saying her goodbyes, Lupine is keeping an eye on the sleeping kids, and I've grabbed a few seconds to write out a PC entry before we set off. There's a hush just before dawn; I can sense a whole snowy world about to stir and yawn and stretch. The packed powder sparkles invitingly, the air is clear, and the clouds on the horizon seem to be moving away from our path. We picked a good day to travel.
Finally we're going home! Home home home! In a few days' time I will get to curl up in the cozy, tattered armchair in my room, and sift through my mad accumulations of paperwork at the Yard, and listen to the everyday hum of the city, and by the gods spend an entire day in bed with Carrot. I am ridiculously eager to be underway, stretch my legs, catch the morning. Hah, my tail must be going a mile a minute.
Beth and Tantony's party was quite nice last night. It made me realize how much I'll miss Beth's spontenaiety, and the Captain's cheerful cursing in the face of Margolotta's vicious attack-tables. Lady Margolotta's words the party made me think: if wolves can coexist so happily with this small group of good people, perhaps there is yet hope for the lot of us. Meanwhile, the tables didn't collapse, my hair stayed in place all evening, Dasha couldn't stop smiling, and even Polly seems to have had a good time with Mal by her side.
Mal, Raimon: Sorry that we couldn't travel together with you. There are trails and shortcuts only wolves can take, especially through the thick Uberwaldean woods. The snow shouldn't block our planned route around the Ramtop foothills, but if for some reason it does, we'll circle back to the main road and maybe even meet up with you. Keep in touch by PC. Stay safe, because the passes aren't.
I guess this is it, then. Farewell, Bonk. It's been more than exciting.
