Tutankhamun
King Tutankhamun

King Tutankhamun was a courageous person. He was a courageous person for becoming king at such a young age, for having to be responsible for the decisions his two advisors, Ay and Horemheb, would make. Since King Tut was only eight or nine when he took the throne, he was to young to make any decisions on his own. Some of the decisions made were: returning religion to Amun Re, and returning the capital of Egypt back to Thebes.
A previous king, Amonhotep, had changed the legally worshipped religion to worship only one god, Aten. No one had wanted to follow this new religion except his family and closest advisors. Early in Tutankhamun’s reign, the legal religion was changed backed to the worship of Amun Re; the old religion worshipped before Amonhotep’s rule.
To follow the reconversion of the legal religion, King Tut changed his name to what it is known as today, Tutankhamun; “when Tut was born, he was given the name Tutankhaten meaning the ‘Living Image of the Aten’ - The Aten was the single god worshiped during the rule Akhenaten, the heretic king who is believed to have been the father of Tutankhamun” (Rigbys, M. T. ,1998.) the new name, Tutankhamun, had the names of both a God (Amun) and the name of a symbol meaning ‘eternal life’ (Ankh).
