Ups and Downs of Housemates

Feb 06, 2007 13:49

I've posted a lot on here recently about the downs of my housemates, failing to mention the ups.

Every morning my housemate below me begins her day by playing her scales on the cello. It is a beautiful thing to ease into your day with the tones of the cello -- it is so low and sonorous, I can easily drift in and out of consciousness for about half an hour and then get up -- unlike waking up to the other housemate practicing his trumpet - which makes me feel like I'm in the army. I'll be missing her cello-playing very soon...

Another recent up: around 6:00 Sunday night, I thought to myself: I smell brass players. It was a funny thought because I don't think in past I was ever conscious of them having a distinctive smell, but I went to investigate -- and lo, and behold -- there were eight brass players in our rehearsal room. They rehearsed this brass tango octet for the tuba player's recital this week upcoming. Afterwards, they shared their wine and (dirty) stories with me -- and it made me feel like I was 21 again hanging out in the music lounge in undergrad. Oh those were the days of fierce card-playing.
