I would like to retract any negative comments I have ever made about facebook. Today it saved my life.
Don't get me wrong. I am guilty of clicking around on the infamous source of procrastination ... people are very interesting. But I have always been VERY skeptical about it's cult-like nature.
But today, www.facebook.com is my hero.
Last night, I went to watch The Matrix for my History of Western Civilization class (yes, apparently it relates to Cartesian philosophy.) And a girl from my recitation with whom I'm relatively friendly asked to borrow my notes from Monday's lecture. She couldn't finish copying them during the movie (a dark room does make that difficult) so I told her to copy them at home and meet me in front of the Old Well at 10:50 the next morning.
Well my first class of the morning was canceled and I just couldn't motivate myself to get out of bed and so I was late (by less then 10 minutes mind you.) And she wasn't there.
Here's the clincher. I don't know her name. I know, I know. But it's all about the window. We would chat occasionally in class and sometimes run into each other on campus but by the time I realized we were becoming friendly, it was too late to ask her name. It seems like a lame excuse, but I'm telling you the window of opportunity had passed and it would have been majorly awkward.
And so facebook, in it's infinite wisdom, allowed me to search for the two things I know about her (other than her class, which she didn't have listed). Her birthday (because it was on the day of our exam) and the fact that she works at the Carolina Coffee Shop. Voila! Kathryn Stuver ... IM, email, and all! Problem solved ... stress relieved ... notebook should be back in my possession later this afternoon.
Thank you facebook!
