I have raised you.

Come to me, tiny shoes, pudgy socks,
your hands know their true nurturer.

I sweat for you in these fields, I speak
softly for you at night.
I turn the pot handles on the stove away from your reach.
I make sure you do not linger
too long in window frames.

I know you have some sort of unnatural instick.
You point at buildings and oceans
and select your career like you were
reacting to the alphabet. It means
nothing to you. your quick release,
your moon light, moon lamp.
You remember the power being replenished after hurricanes.

Walk to me, first steps, tiny shoes.
you can't allow yourself to be
clandestine for much longer.
