Hmmm. I wonder if they'll ever get off the island, at this rate. I know they would survive well enough, but I think it would still be so sad for them, to be thought dead of by the world, to never enjoy sandwiches or novels ever again. I wonder who is fighting for a claim to Luke's fortune right now? So many irrelevant questions...

I imagine they'll get off the island. I doubt that Luke will ever remember, though. Twenty-one days seems like such a long time, for some reason. But there's so much good to that, because Luke will fall in love with Reid a second time (already is!) and I wonder if Reid will see that as the compliment it kind of is, or as proof of how right for each other they are. Although I wish Reid would unburden himself from holding back some of the memories he has... it's as though he doesn't want to explain them because he's stubbornly holding out that Luke will remember and he won't need to. But that might not happen.

Reid smiles weakly, and turns away, digging into a coconut with his pocket knife just to give himself something to do. Luke and Reid's first Thanksgiving together was spent in hospital. Reid was still recovering from his latest surgery, and his hand was too weak to cut his own turkey, let alone saw through a squash. He wasn't entirely convinced he'd ever be able to saw through a skull again at that point, and when Luke had had to cut up his meat for him, he'd snapped that he wasn't a baby and could Luke stop trying to mother him, it was insulting.

The whole room had gone silent then, and seeing the look on Luke's face made him feel like the world's biggest asshole.

"Sorry," Reid had muttered. "I apologize to you all. That was out of line."

Loved this part! My first, immediate thought, was "So Noah." And I'm sure Luke's was too! And he wondered how he could be doing such a thing like smothering a boyfriend again after all he had went through the first time around, how awful that relationship had turned out.

And then Reid apologized. Nothing like Noah after all! :)

Still loving this, Alice. If you don't mind my asking, how many more chapters are there? I just want to prepare myself for knowing when it will end.

Although, ack, forgot to put this in the first comment: beta-wise, Luke and Reid would have spent their first Thanksgiving together in the hospital, not in hospital. Oh you totally different from the ENTIRE REST OF THE WORLD Americanisms. ;) I don't know why we just don't make the switch to what everyone else says.
