Mr and Mrs Smith

al_fruitbat and I went to the cinema at the weekend to see Mr and Mrs Smith. Because we go to the cinema on the weekends, we've taken to going early afternoon when it's a bit quieter, and we combine it with going to eat at the cinema complex first (the have a nice Café Rouge which we discovered...).

This is interesting because, as we came out of the restaurant to head to the cinema itself on Saturday, we realised that there had been an accident at the entrance to the complex (Finchley Lido) - a car had sideswiped another. The two cars, plus two ambulances were now blocking the entrance to the cinema. I imagine there were a few annoyed people that afternoon. (I don't know the outcome of the accident - someone was being stretchered away, but as Al says, they often do that even with relatively mild neck injuries.)

Anyway, the cinema was reeeeally quiet. First we thought that maybe it was because people had read the less than excellent reviews of the film... but then we figured out the whole accident blocking the entrance thing.... anyway, the film...

We really enjoyed it! I don't know why the reviewers have been so down on it. It's a lot of fun. I mean, you can't take it seriously - it's a bit like when Charlie's Angels took off their wetsuits to reveal evening dresses underneath, or when Sydney Bristow switches the keycard for a fake one right under the security guard's nose - you just have to accept things like Mr keeping his guns in the shed, and Mrs keeping hers in the cooker...!

Some of the lines had us giggling, the dinner table scene was very well choreographed, and the car chase was amusingly inventive.

Brad Pitt does ok - I generally think he's pretty bad at showing emotion in films, but this one doesn't really need it, so that's cool. Angelina Jolie is great.

I also enjoyed the reverse sexism - Mrs gets all the big guns! Hurrah!

So yeah - we'd recommend it. As long as you don't expect anything serious, it's a lot of fun :) Go see it!
