Here's like...an interviewy thing. It's short but he talks about Jake W.
Just William
Aiden front man in control
Aiden's wiL Francis is about to releast his first solo album as William Control, his electronic alter-ego, and he told Rock Sound that it's the bleakest thiing he's ever done.
"All of us have a dark iner-being that just wants to fucking cut off people's heads and puke down their throats," he said, "and that's what has inspired this new record." More specifically, the album, entitled, 'Hate Culture', is inspired by wiL's near-suicidal feelings after a recent break-up with his fiancee and his belief that the modern world is fulled by hate.
"With the internet craze that has happened over the last five or ten years there has been this anonymous hatred towards anybody and everything," he explained. "Everyone has got an opinion and because they don't have a face they can say whatever the way, regardless of the fact that they hurt people's feelings. I just feel that we live in such a hate-fulled society."
However, he admitted that his personal life may have more to do with his black moon. "A lot of things have come to a crashing end in my life recently," he sighed. "Aiden cancelled a tour and we kicked out our guitar player [Jake Wambold]. I didn't know what to do, but I could start drinking and kill myself or write a record. I chose to write a record."
wiL told Rock Sound that in 05 he found relationship break-ups so painful that he would rather die, and his feelings haven't changed since the break-up of his engagement. "That's how I felt at the time," he said. "I was pretty close to just letting go. Music saved me, once again. There are no songs on the recoard that are like, 'Oh, you broke my heart and now I'm alone, blah, blah, blah.' Fuck that. It's just a general sense of 'fuck you'. That's how I feel."
He also explained how the situation with guitarist Jake made life in Aiden increasingly difficult.
"There was an underlying sense that something was wrong and there was something wrong. There's a laundry list of things that we could go through. When you're in a band for a long time you either learn to love someone or you learn to hate them, and if you don't have communication everything gets fucked up. It was all to do with a lack of communication and a lack of passion. The shows were four guys playing their hearts out and one guy just getting throuhg it, making fun of things and being negative. It turned into a cancer. We just had to say, 'At what point do we decide that we're not willing to sacrifice what we do?'"
wiL believes that the William Control album is a mixture of "four-to-the-flour dance beats" and "bizarre off-beat songs", and he's prepared for the fact that many Aiden fans won't like it. "If Aiden fans end up liking it then awesome," he said. "I don't think they will though because Aiden is a rock band and ... Control is all synthesisers and electronics."
However, he hasn't given up on Aiden. They've been writing songs over the summer and he expects to record a new album at the end of the year for a possible spring '09 release. "I feel like the skies have opened and there's a whole new realm of possibilities in front of me," he revealed of the new line-up. "We're a brand new band."
"Hate Control" will be released through Victory on October 27.
