ISTJ is the most common type among practicing engineers. You are usually quiet and sometimes appear withdrawn, but you make good use of your quiet time by thinking of ideas and how facts go together. You tend concentrate on executing the job at hand, using logic to figure out the solution. You like to schedule and plan ahead, and aren't happy if you have to adapt and change once you start down a path. ISTJs are dependable, organized, goal-oriented, and focused on the facts.
You prefer small groups of people, but may be the biggest talker of all in a small group of friends. Large groups of people wear you out, and you tend to find a small group. You get energy from ideas, not people.

You prefer things to be concrete and factual and depend on your five senses to explain the world. You prefer to be very organized and love lists, procedures, and instructions. In fact, you can get so tied up in thinking that everything has a set way to be and a schedule to be on, that you can forget to be flexible and listen to new ideas. March on and execute, execute, execute is your motto.

In the classroom, you learn best by watching examples worked out in complete detail. All that abstract theory just confuses you. Remember your strength and find some worked out problems to study. Or, don't hesitate to ask the professor to finish an example for you. Somehow seeing the whole problem worked out is just what you usually need to understand the material.
