Cricket Update 2

Well.

Very disappointing.

Not good at all.

We lost very badly to North Balwin Combined. 87 runs to be exact, which is even worse when you find out that they were playing with only 9 men.

We started OK, but after our opening bowlers, things went south pretty fast. They scored over 200, and we were never really in the hunt. At drink (20 overs in - half way) we were 1 for 70 or so, which is not really good enough when you are chasing over 200. After our top three batsmen, things got even worse, when the traditional Hawthorn batting collapse occurred, and suddenly I was out in the middle.

I was going ok - not fantastic but defending well and planning to bat out the innings when I was given out LBW in very dubious circumstances. I'll admit that I was in line with the stumps, and that I had played back, but the ball struck me on the thigh, above my pads (leaving a nice bruise I might add) and was never going to hit the stumps.

I departed the ground with a few choice words hurled at the umpire - who was our captain I might add - and from there we lost thoroughly.

In fact, it was not a good day for the Hawthorn club all over, with only the 2's and 4's winning. Which leaves the 1'sts, 3'rds and 5ths in a bad way with two losses and no wins to start the season.

Let's hope things improve next week when the competition moves into the two day format.

Not happy Jan.
