finally, an avril update. :)
i've always heard that this little punk rocker is pretty good live and i wanted to experience that for myself. the opening act,
pug jelly was a local band that consisted of so many white boys i couldn't be sure they were. here's one i got of the band through their set of more than five songs.
more than an hour later, avril jumped on stage in her signature studded belt and too-long blonde hair. the crowd went wild after the long wait but i managed to get only a few pictures before a burly security officer shone a torch in my face and hollered for me to follow him outside. apparently, no recording devices are allowed in the venue and they were going around picking out the trigger-happy members of the audience like myself. i got rather annoyed with the whole situation for a good while, but lynsie managed to get me jostled up again and before too long, we were linking arms, hopping madly up and down and pumping our hands along to avril's infectious beat. there was a reported 7,000 people in attendance, and the age demographics weren't as young as we would have imagined.
i have to say she is good live, her voice is distinctly powerful and she exhibited her various musical abilities by working on the drums through Song 2, a Blur cover and then the piano in one of her songs. after coming back, my mp3 collection has been supplemented by the live goodness of ms avril. i especially love nobody's home.
so at the end of the whole thing, lynsie and myself concur that it was a fun night and avril was pretty cool. still, nothing beats our shared experience of the Ronan Keating concert in the same venue about three years ago. the crowd was whipped up, dancing in the aisle and singing along to all the songs; ronan was a great performer (but of course i'm biased) and the whole atmosphere of the night was just electric. it's just one of those things that make up a memorable part of past.
