Bear

Ville bit the side of his lip, feeling the need for a cigarette flare up like it hadn’t in so many years. He glanced around the dressing room, the cool crisp air making him feel caged and spooked, more than comfortable and welcoming. Unlike his band mates who were joyfully talking away with the sound crew and Bam.
Bam, with a frown, Ville considered Bam. Bam had been many things over the years, a friend, a nuisance and most importantly, a lover. A lover who drove him absolutely nuts and kept him absolutely sane at the same time. Okay, maybe not always at the same time, but it was mostly balanced.
Ville had put up with many of Bam’s quirks, from his need to dress like a under privileged punk kid, to a near clone of himself, to a sparkling, neon gypsy. And despite all of Bam’s many fashion flaws, Ville had put up with all of them. Except for the thong phase, it was one thing for Novak to wear them, but Ville thought it was far too ridiculous for Bam.
All that said, Ville was not a fan of the new mountain man look. Ville liked a clean shaven face, something him and Bam had argued over many a time before. After many, many fights, they had finally settled on the well kept goatee that was Bam’s signature facial hair. Apparently, his absence had changed the agreement.

Like Bam could hear Ville’s exact thoughts, the shorter man turned from his conversation with the band and crew, and caught Ville’s eye. A bright gleam came to Bam’s eyes, as his face broke into a wide, shit eating grin. “Vil!” He called, waving before rushing over.

Ville rolled his eyes in a gentle motion. It never failed to flatter the man, by how happy Bam would become with just the knowledge that Ville was thinking of him, or in this case, staring at him. “Bam,” he greeted in return.

Bam came to a halt just mere inches from the other man. “Why’re you all the way over here?” Bam asked, his movements a bit bouncy with the adrenaline and alcohol flowing through his system. He leaned a bit into Ville’s space, his eyes focused on Ville, his smile sliding into a gentle, content grin. “Novak was talking shit about you, I totally kicked him in the nuts for it.”

Ville looked down at the man, looking over every part of him. “You shouldn’t of done that,” he murmured, not liking violence. At one point in their lives, Ville would of just laughed and joined in on the pranks. However, at this point in time, he was beyond that would rather skip the headache of it all. “You grew out your beard,” he pointed out for the first time since they saw each other that afternoon; which had been the first time they had seen each other for nearly a month and a half.

Bam grinned a bit sheepishly, scratching at said beard. “I like it, makes me look ruggedly handsome, right?”

Ville frowned. “Bam,” he said, his voice just a bit strained.

Bam laughed, before grabbing the back of Ville’s neck, and pulling him down so he could rub his hairy face against Ville’s smooth neck. “You’ll get used to it, plus how else would everyone know who’s the chick and who’s the dick?” He laughed at his own joke.

“Believe me Bam,” Ville groaned, pushing his boyfriend away. “Everyone knows you, as you kindly put it, are a dick.”

Bam let out another loud laugh. “Yeah, I guess you’re right. But you love me anyways, right?”

Ville looked down at Bam’s face. Taking in the age lines that nearly matched his own. They had both lived long adventurous lives, and had many scares, cuts, and tattoo’s to show for it. Bam had been there for the good and the bad things, and not once had he ran. Not even when Ville was going through the darkest parts of his life, the parts not even when Ville wanted to be there.
“Yeah,” he whispered, closing their lips together. “I still love you,” he mumbled, pulling back so he could smile down at Bam. “But please,” he said after a moment. “Please, shave, if I wanted to date a bear, I would be sleeping with Mige, love.”

The End
