“Come on, Dunn, just fucking talk to him already.” Bam and Ryan were sitting in the living room once again, alone this time.
“Why don't you do it yourself?” Ryan sighed, rubbing the side of his face. It had been three days now, since Bam's confession. He hadn't talked to Linde since that night, and he was starting to feel guilty about it. He couldn't help but feel a bit angry at the blonde, though. Linde had recognized Bam, Ryan was sure of it. That was why he had gotten so weird that night, when they had come to the castle to get Ryan's jacket. Ever since then, Linde had acted funny, and now he knew why.
“Come on dude. You know you want to make up with Linde, he's tried calling you fifty times already.” Ryan closed his eyes, wishing he could block Bam out, but knowing it was useless. The brunette had been bothering him for over thirty minutes now, trying to make him call the Finn.
“Bam, the only reason you give a shit is because you want me to talk to Ville for you.” Ryan took a drink of the beer that sat in front of him, before sitting it back on the coffee table. The twin to his beer sat firmly in Bam's hand, three fourths of the way empty.
“Ryan, please dude. I don't know how to talk to him.” Bam dropped the moaning and groaning that he usually used to get people to do things for him. He was speaking quietly now, a rare tone of seriousness in his voice.
Ryan sighed loudly. Dammit, that voice got to him. A lot. He stood up slowly, grabbing his beer and his phone. “Fine. I'm not talking to him on the phone, though.”
He pushed himself up off of the couch. He grabbed his beer, draining it in one long gulp. Turning away from Bam, Ryan headed to the door, walking through quickly. He stopped just long enough to drop his empty beer into one of the cans that were waiting to be taken to the curb, and the headed to his car.
Dropping into the car, he immediately turned it on and cranked up the heat. He hesitated a few moments before he slowly drove out of the driveway. Unconsciously, he took the long way to Linde's house. He hated to admit it, but he was nervous. He knew that this conversation probably wouldn't go well. Hopefully Ville wouldn't be there, although Ryan knew it would be best to talk to them both together.
As much as he didn't want to use the L word -it was much too early for that- he couldn't help but feel like he was falling for Linde. And now, this fight between Ville and Bam could very well break them up for good. It wasn't fair, Ryan thought, that he might lose his boyfriend because of something that he wasn't even truly a part of. Although, truthfully, he was now making himself a part of it by agreeing to talk to Ville for Bam. Bam was like a little brother to him though, and Ryan had to do something to help the skater.
He ended up at Linde's before he even realized that he was nearing the house. He stopped the car in the driveway, letting it idle for a moment as he tried to figure out what he was going to say. After a long moment of coming up with nothing, he sighed and shut the car off. Slamming the door behind him, he left the car and trotted up the stairs. He hesitated once more in front of the door, before he slowly lifted his hand and knocked.
For a long moment, no one answered, and Ryan was starting to wonder if they were even home. Sure, the car was here, but maybe they took the bus somewhere? He knocked once more, and waited, hoping slightly that no one would answer, and he could go home and tell Bam that he tried. No luck though, a few seconds after he knocked, the door was pulled open by a familiar shaggy haired boy.
“Oh, hi Ryan. I didn't know you were coming over,” Lauri said cheerfully, giving the man a smile as he moved aside to let Ryan in.
“Neither did I until about ten minutes ago. Where's your uncle?” Ryan gave the boy a smile, the last thing he wanted was for the kids to get hurt during this.
“Living room.” Lauri led the way to the living room, where Ville and Linde were sitting on the couch, watching a movie. Anja was spread out on the floor in front of them, the spot were Lauri had been painfully obvious next to her. Ryan bit his lip, how could he ruin this family moment?
“Hey Ryan!” Linde immediately stood, smiling happily at Ryan. He had been worried, the past few days that he hadn't heard from Ryan, although he tried not to show it now. Anja lifted her hand and waved, never taking her eyes off the movie. Ville gave a halfhearted hello from the couch. He watched the scene warily, feeling like something was up. Ryan had never dropped in unannounced before.
“Hi Linde, hi Ville and Anja,” Ryan greeted everyone with a small smile. He kissed Linde's cheek gently, enjoying the Finn's closeness while he could.
“What are you doing here? I haven't heard from you...” Linde looked at Ryan, worried suddenly. He knew Ryan well enough by now to know that something was wrong with the other man.
“Um, I need to talk to you.” Ryan looked at Linde, trying to keep his nervousness hidden. He then glanced sideways at the twins and Ville. “Alone.”
Linde frowned deeply, but nodded. He took Ryan's hand and led him to the stairs. “Come on then.”
Ryan followed Linde obediently. He was silent the whole way up the stairs, and into Linde's room. Linde sat on the edge of his bed and looked up at Ryan expectantly, nervously pulling on one of his dreadlocks.
Ryan looked around Linde's room slowly, to see the room as much as to distract himself from the conversation to come. All in all, he had imagined his first time seeing Linde's room differently. Linde watched him for a second, before he couldn't take the silence anymore. “Ryan?”
“Bam saw you, Linde,” Ryan said bluntly, refusing to look at the Finn. He closed his eyes as he heard Linde's sharp intake of breath. He finally looked at Linde as he started talking.
“He saw me? He... Oh shit, Ville's going to kill me,” Linde whispered, pulling on his dreadlock harder now. He bit his lip. How could he have let Bam see him? Ville would never forgive him... Not for this.
“Yeah... He told us the whole story, about him and Ville, and Ville getting pregnant. You recognized him, right? When we went to get my jacket? That's why you got so quiet and didn't talk to me... Why didn't you tell me?” Ryan asked quietly, unable to keep the hurt out of his voice.
“I couldn't, Ryan...” Linde hesitated, trying to think of what to say. He looked up at Ryan sadly. “I was just thinking about how to tell Ville... And then he freaked out, and he didn't want me to see you any longer... He would have really freaked if I told you... And I didn't want to lose you, too.”
Ryan let out a sigh and sat down next to Linde, pulling him into a hug. “I understand, I guess. I'm still upset, but we can talk about that later. The reason I came here, besides talking to you of course, is because Bam wants me to talk to Ville for him. He really feels bad, about this Linde. He wants a chance to talk to Ville, and to get to know the kids.”
Linde shook his head slightly. “Ville's going to freak out, Ryan. When Bam left, it devastated him... He's not going to let him back into his life willingly.”
“Yeah, I figured that. I've got to try though. Bam's my best friend, I hate seeing him so unhappy. He's been unhappy for so long now. Wouldn't you do the same for Ville?”
At Linde's nod, Ryan stood up. “You don't have to come with me if you don't want, but I have to do this for Bam. And it's best to get it over with.”
“Maybe I can help, somehow,” Linde offered weakly. He followed Ryan back out of his room and down the stairs. He knew that the upcoming conversation could not go well.
The two of them walked into the living room, and Linde looked at the kids. “Anja, Lauri, go upstairs, please. We need to talk to your Isa.”
Anja and Lauri exchanged looks, but they obediently stood and left the room together.
Ville frowned deeply, turning the TV off. “What's going on, Lily?” He sat back, watching how Linde was pulling on his dreadlocks, a sure sign the blonde was nervous.
“Well... Ville, I went out with Ryan a few days ago, and Bam saw me. He told Ryan everything.” Linde's voice was soft as he looked at his best friend.
Ville didn't say a word. He stared at Linde with an unreadable expression on his face. In his head, it felt as though a bomb had just went off. Bam knew he was here? How could Bam know? How could he be so close to his family suddenly?
Ryan decided to use Ville's shocked silence to try and get his point across. “Ville, Bam wants to talk to you. He wants to meet the twins, too. He feels bad about what he did, and-”
“And he fucking should!” Ville erupted suddenly, springing to his feet and pacing around the room. He turned his glare on Linde, “How could you go out with him, I told you this would happen! You should have listened to me, Mikko.”
“I'm sorry, Ville. I didn't want to lose Ryan, though. Ville, he makes me happy, I didn't think-”
Ville knew he was being extremely unfair to his friend. He knew he was just angry and speaking in anger. That didn't stop the words from coming, though. “You didn't think about anyone but yourself, obviously! How am I supposed to keep him away from the kids now? I can't let him near my kids! How could you be so stupid, Linde? This is-”
This time, Ryan was the one who did the interrupting. “That's enough, Ville! Don't take this out on Linde!”
“Don't you fucking tell me what to do! This wouldn't have happened if you never came around here!” Ville glared at Ryan, anger building up inside him. He felt trapped. He needed his kids safe, and now they weren't, and he couldn't help lashing out.
“Ville, stop. That's bullshit and you know it. Besides, it's already happened, blaming Ryan and me won't fix anything.” Linde spoke calmly, trying to hide the pain he was feeling in an attempt to calm his friend.
Ville glared at him, “I wouldn't have to fix anything if it wasn't for you! We should have never fucking come here!” He switched to Finnish suddenly, more out of spite than a wish to keep Ryan from knowing what they were saying. “Maybe if you love him so fucking much, you should go live with him! You obviously don't give a shit about me or the twins!”
Linde jerked back as if he'd been hit. He struggled to keep the tears back, but they came anyway, a mix of hurt at Ville's words, and his own guilt at feeling that he had spoken the truth. Ryan put his hand on Linde's shoulder, trying to comfort him.
“How could you say that, Ville? You know I love the twins more than anything...” Linde's voice was quiet.
“Oh yeah? You have a funny way of showing it.” Ville rolled his eyes. He turned away slightly, trying to think. What the hell was he supposed to do now? He couldn't exactly move, he needed this job. But how could he keep Bam away from them now?
“Ville, you're being totally unreasonable. All Bam wants is a chance-” Ryan was cut off once again by the raging Finn.
“He should have fucking taken his chance when he had it, fifteen years ago!”
Ryan just sighed at the interruption, and continued. “He fucked up, Ville. That's obvious, but he's trying to do the right thing now. You should give him a chance, for Anja and Lauri's sakes. Don't they want to know about their dad?”
“Don't you dare fucking tell me what's best for my fucking kids! How dare you!?” Ville turned on Ryan, balling his hands into fists as he started towards the other man.
“I'm just trying to get you to think about what you're doing, Ville. Your not just taking the kids away from Bam, but your taking him away from them! They're going to be hurt if they find out they could have met h-”
Ryan didn't get a chance to finish, he was cut off when Ville punched him square in the nose. He stumbled back against the wall, his hand going to his face in shock.
Linde let out a yell, moving to Ryan's side quickly “Ville, stop it! What the fuck are you doing?!”
Ville stared at Ryan in shock, seeing a bit of blood slowly drip from the man's nose. Had he really hit him? He backed up a few steps slowly. How could he have let himself do that? The shock settled into his mind, muting his anger and letting him truly see the people in front of him, people that he had just hurt.
Ryan leaned against the wall, rubbing his nose gently. He knew it wasn't broken, but he also knew it would hurt like hell for the next few days, and he'd probably get a black eye as well. He looked up at Ville, who was still staring at him in shock. After a second, he looked at Linde, who had tears dripping down his cheeks now. “I think I should go, Linde. I'm only making this worse.”
Linde shook his head desperately, holding onto Ryan.”I don't want to lose you, Ryan.”
Ryan pulled him close, and kissed him gently on the lips. “You won't, Pretty Flower, I promise.”
Before Linde could say anything else, Ryan was out the door. A moment later, Linde heard the sounds of his car pulling away. He leaned against the wall were Ryan had just been, trying to keep the tears at bay once again.
“Linde...” Ville started, feeling guilty as he looked at his friend. He stepped closer, only to freeze as Linde turned his glare onto him.
“Don't. Just don't you fucking dare, Ville.” Linde's voice was more than angry, he was furious at his best friend. “There was absolutely no fucking reason for you to do that to him, Ville. None.”
“Linde, I'm sorry.” Ville whispered, unable to say anymore. The blonde shrugged off his apology, grabbing his jacket off the table before following the same path Ryan had taken moments before. He wouldn't go to Ryan's house, he thought the man needed time to cool down, but he couldn't stay here with Ville a moment longer.
The door slammed, and Ville was left standing alone in the living room, being eaten alive by his guilt. He turned slowly, leaving the living room and passing through the kitchen to the backyard. He sat down on the grass, laying his head on his knees as he began to cry.
A few minutes later, two forms slowly moved into the living room, disturbing the silent aftermath of the fight. Anja looked around, as if expecting to see some physical evidence of the fight that had just taken place. “Isa is really mad, Lauri.”
Lauri didn't reply, he stared after his father silently, tears trailing down his cheeks. “He's never going to let us meet our dad, Anja...”
Anja moved towards her brother, pulling him into a tight hug as the younger twin burst into sobs. She rubbed his back slowly, not knowing what to do or what to say to help Lauri. Lauri had held out hope for so long that they would eventually meet their dad, and it was killing him inside to be so close to him, and not be able to see him.
After a long moment, Lauri calmed down. The twins held onto each other for a while longer, each drawing comfort from the other. Slowly, Lauri lifted his head from his sister's shoulder. A defiant look came into his eyes, and he made up him mind. He was going to meet his dad, no matter what his Isa might say.
He took two short steps over to the couch. Leaning over slightly, he plucked Linde's phone up from where it had fallen in between the cushions. Ignoring Anja's questions, he flipped the phone open, scrolling through the contacts for the number he was looking for. He hesitated only for a minute, then pressed dial.
“Hello? Linde?” The slightly gruff voice answered, worry in the tone.
“Ryan? This is Lauri...”
