Chapter 1 Chapter 2
The sun was beginning to set as Bam finally reached his home. He knew that Ape would probably be pissed for not arriving on time to help with the chores, but he didn’t care. The only thing running through the young skater’s head was thoughts of his green-eyed beauty. As soon as the Finn had written down his number, Bam placed it into his cell phone log and began to chant it over and over again in his mind. Sure, there was the problem of Ville being involved with some mystery man, but all Bam had to do was get Ville alone long enough to show that he was the right one for him. Shouldn’t be too hard…
Bam had to let out a little smirk as he began to contemplate meeting Ville again. He could call him up after he’s done with the whole family thing and convince the beauty to meet him secretly. Once the two find each other again, he would woo Ville with his charm and good looks. The Finn would be powerless against Bam’s art of seduction…
“Brandon Cole Margera!” A furious April Margera screamed to her son from the doorway of their home. Damn…not even inside and already getting yelled at.
“Just where in the world have you been!?”
“I’ve been in love Ape,” Bam cheekily responded. He walked up to his mother and kissed her on the cheek before pushing past her to go inside. April stood there flabbergasted for a moment before closing the door and following her son inside.
“Just what is that supposed to mean?”
“It means exactly what it sounds like. I met someone today and now I’m in love.”
“Really now?” April asked with raised eyebrows. “And where did you meet her? Is she nice?”
“We met at the coffee shop in town. And actually…it’s a he…” Bam said slowly.
“Oh!” Ape responded in a shocked manner. She knew that her youngest son was bisexual, and she had accepted his orientation fully since he came out, but this was the first time he’d ever mentioned meeting a boy he was interested in. “Honey…are you sure you’re ready to date…another boy?”
“Ape,” Bam groaned with a roll of his eyes. “I like boys. You’re going to have to learn how to deal with that.”
“I know,” April scoffed. Typical teenage reaction; always assuming that parents won’t understand. “What I mean is that you’ve never actually dated another boy before. Are you sure that you’re ready?”
“Well…I don’t know, to be honest,” Bam sighed. “But this guy seems like he’s worth the try.”
“Well then I’m happy for you baby,” his mother smiled, wrapping her arms around her son in a warm hug. “But you’re still in trouble for not being here when I told you.”
“What!?” Bam exclaimed, pushing his way out of his mother’s embrace. “Come on Ape! It was a matter of love! Besides, I sent Novak to help.”
“Bam, you should know good and well that Brandon is no help in the kitchen. He kept trying to eat everything. So, now you’re going to have to help me with cooking all this week.”
“What!? That’s not fair.”
“Life is unfair sweetie. Besides, I’m really going to need your help. Your Aunt Rita is coming in tomorrow and she’s bringing the boys with her. Plus your Mum-Mum and Pop-Pop will be here in a few days with…ugh…Vito,” April shivered.
“Oh shit,” Bam sighed. “Caleb and Alex are coming?” Caleb and Alex were Bam’s cousins on April’s side of the family, and probably two of the most annoying people he knew. They were twins and had the tendency to do the stereotypical twin shenanigans, such as finishing each other’s sentences and switching places. Caleb he could tolerate a bit more, but Alex had boundary issues and had no understanding of the word “no”.
“Language!” April scolded, lightly slapping Bam’s arm. “And yes they are coming.”
“How long are they staying?” Bam asked, praying that it would only be for the night.
“Until the holidays are over,” Ape replied.
“Oh fuck me!”
“Bam! Don’t use that language with your mother,” Phil called from the next room.
“Sorry fat man,” Bam called back. “Ape, please, I’m begging you, can we lock Caleb and Alex in the basement?”
“Oh calm down,” April sighed. “They’re not even going to be sharing a room with you this time. Just lock your door if you don’t want them coming in at night.”
“Like that will stop them,” Bam scoffed.
“There’s no point in arguing this any further,” April said firmly. “The case is closed. So go up stairs and wash up. Your brother will be here any minute.”
“Its just Jess,” Bam rolled his eyes. “Why do I need to get fancy for him?”
“Because this is the first time he’s been home all semester. And I’m not asking you to put on a tux; I just want you to wash your face and but on a nice shirt. Now get going!”
“Alright, alright,” Bam groaned as he made his way upstairs. He didn’t really understand what all the fuss was about. Jess just went off to college, its not like he was serving a tour in Iraq.
Truth be told though, Bam really did miss his big brother. When he still lived at home, the two, despite the occasional sibling rivalry, were as close as two brothers could be. Jess taught Bam how to play the drums when they were kids and Bam would make music videos for Jess and his band. The two used to confide everything in each other. In fact, aside from Novak, Jess-Jess was the first person that Bam admitted his sexual orientation to. When his big brother first moved out to the university, a little bit of Bam died. At first, Jess would call his little brother nightly to check up on him and tell him about his college life. After a while though, the calls came down to once a week, to nearly once a month, until it got to the point where Jess would go a few months without calling his little brother. At this point, it had been nearly three months since the two had really spoken. Bam was saddened by this at first, but his sadness gradually grew into a numb indifference. Bam couldn’t wait to see his big brother though. Just a few tackles and laughs, and the two would be back to normal….But he still didn’t see why he had to get dressed up.
By the time Bam reached his room, he noticed something…off. His door was closed and there was the sound of metal coming from the room. He opened the door to see Novak, checking himself out in his full length mirror while wearing his favorite burgundy blazer. Laughing to himself, Bam turned off his stereo to get Novocain’s attention. Novak jumped when he became aware of the other presence in the room.
“Jesus,” he breathed out. “Don’t sneak up on people Life-Mate.”
“Don’t dig through my closet and steal my shit,” Bam replied, giving Novak a dirty glare.
“Don’t be mad Bam-Bam. Ape invited me to stay for dinner and told me to just borrow some of your nice clothes. What do you think?” He asked, raising his arms and doing a spin for Bam.
“I think that if you got anymore gay, then you would shit pride rainbows.”
“Don’t hate me because I wear it better than you,” Novak smirked. “So how’d it go with that guy earlier?”
“Well Nudie…there’s not really a way to describe it…” Bam sighed. “It was…magical…”
“Really now?” Novak laughed. “How so?”
“Well…the only thing I can say about is…” Bam trailed off.
“…Is…what?” Novak pressed.
Bam’s eyes shined with a wicked glint and he gave Novak a crooked smirk before belting out, “Heaven, I’m in Heaven. And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak.”
“No!” Novak screamed, covering his ears. His foster mother, Karen, had a huge love of musicals. The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle was one of her particular favorites. When he first moved in with her and her husband, and one of his friends wanted to come over, instead of letting them watch TV and play video games, she would have them watch old musicals. Though Novak hated them with a passion, and everyone knew it, Bam had taken a liking to a few of them.
“And I seem to find the happiness I seek, when we’re out together dancing, cheek to cheek.” Bam continued to sing, pressing up close to Novak.
“Bam, stop it, or I swear I’m going to kill you,” the irritated teen threatened.
“Heaven, I’m in Heaven. And the cares that hang around me thro’ the weak.”
“Shut up Bam,” Novak shouted, pushing his friend off of him.
“Seem to vanish like a gambler’s streak.”
“This is your last warning Bam-Bam!”
“When we’re out together dancing, cheek to cheek.”
That was the last straw as Novak pounced at Bam. The two boys crashed down onto Bam’s bed, knocking off a few articles of clothes and a several CD cases. Novak managed to pin Bam down by sitting on his chest while throwing light punches at his stomach. Bam laughed hysterically as he tried to throw the boy off of him. It was always so fun to piss of Nudie. He was so easy to set off. Bam grunted as Novak punched a sensitive spot in his abdomen. Hearing the discontented noise, Novak began to attack that spot, hoping to have the skater groveling in pain. Bam rolled to the side, causing Novak to fall of him and to the floor. Novak tried to get up, but Bam was quick to pounce on top of him. He had the boy’s arms behind his back in a matter of seconds.
“Are you gonna stop fighting, or do I have to fart on your head again?”
“Depends,” Novak replied. “What’ve you eaten today?”
“Leftover Mexican and Chinese food.”
“Ok, ok,” Novak exclaimed. “I give. Just please don’t do it!”
“Alright then,” Bam grinned. “Since you beg so nicely.”
With a triumphant smirk, Bam lifted himself off of his friend. Novak groaned at the pain of being tackled before he shakily tried to lift himself up. Laughing at his pain, Bam reached out a hand to help him up.
“So it went that good, huh?” Novak asked once he was standing straight again.
“It was pretty much the best hour I’ve ever spent with another guy.”
“Ouch,” Novak said with a fake pout.
“Oh shut up,” Bam groaned. “But anyway, he’s smart, he’s beautiful, he’s fun and he seemed interested in me.”
“Nice,” Novak nodded. “So, are you gonna see him again?”
“I’d like to but…” Bam trailed off.
“But…?” Novak pressed.
“There’s one little problem…”
“He’s straight?”
“No…quite the opposite, actually…He has a boyfriend,” Bam sighed, falling back on his bed in a dramatic manner.
“Damn. That sucks man,” his friend sympathized.
“Yeah…but he did give me his number,” Bam said hopefully.
“Really? So you’re like his man on the side? Or his little holiday fling?”
“Hey!” The skater said in an offended tone. “Don’t say it like that! We really connected.”
“Yeah,” the drug addict scoffed. “You’ve known him for one hour and you two are already soul mates.”
“Perhaps…” Bam smiled. “I just have to woo him away from his little boy-friend. He must not be too into the guy if he was flirting with me for so long.”
“Perhaps you’re just confusing flirtation with just plain friendliness?”
“I know the difference Nudie. He was into me. I could see it in his perfect green eyes,” Bam gushed.
“Dude, please keep some of your masculinity intact and stop sounding like a thirteen year-old girl.”
“Hey, when I start to say ‘OMG’ and obsess over fucking High School Musical, then you can hit me. Until then, quit your bitching.”
“I’m just warning you man,” Novak continues. “You’re on a slippery slope here. First you start talking about him, then you write his name all over your notebook, and soon you’ll be carving his name into your arm.”
“Is that what you did with Jess?” Bam smirked.
“Shut up,” Novak groaned. “I liked your brother a long time ago! I don’t anymore!”
“So if Jess-Jess threw you down and said that he wanted to fuck your brains out, you would say no?”
“Oh hell no. You know me, I’d never turn down a free lay,” Novocain laughed. “But we’re not talking about me right now. Did you even get the pretty boy’s name?”
“Of course I did. Its Ville,” Bam sighed dreamily. “Ville Valo,” he repeated, trying his best to imitated the Finn’s accent.
“Ville…nice,” his friend nodded. “Why are you saying it funny though?”
“That’s the way he said it…sort of. He’s from Finland and he has the sexiest voice you can imagine.”
“Dude, if you keep talking like that, we’re both gonna get hard and I really don’t want to have to take out my sexual frustrations on you.”
“Like I would ever let you,” the skater scoffed.
“Bam!” April’s voice called from the other side of his door. She gave a quick courtesy knock before opening the door and coming in anyway. “Bam, sweetie, did you change yet?”
“Not yet, sorry,” Bam replied lazily.
“Bam,” she sighed. “When I ask you to do something, I expect you to do it! Just look at Brandon. At least he respects me enough to do as I say.”
“Only because you’re giving him free food,” Bam mumbled. “Besides, how am I supposed to get dressed up when Nudie is wearing my blazer and my vest?”
“Oh, you know that you have more than two pairs of nice clothes. Why don’t you wear that nice red silk shirt I got you for your birthday?”
Instead of waiting for Bam’s opinion on the matter, April went straight to Bam’s closet and began to rummage through the clothing. Bam just lay back and watch as she pulled out the silk shirt and a pair of his black slacks. Bam didn’t want to tell her the reason he never wanted to wear the shirt, was because it was about a size too small and clung too tightly to his frame. The last time he had tried it on, Novak just got bad ideas in his head. But…if it would stop her bitching, then he would have to put up with it. As long as he didn’t have to wear it when the rest of the family came.
“Here you go,” April smiled as she handed Bam the make-shift outfit. “Now get dressed, your brother will be here any minute.” With that, the blonde ball of sunshine left her son and his friend.
“Novak, you’ve been around her more today; why the hell does she want us to dress up?” Bam asked as he examined the clothing.
“Don’t really know. She said something about Jess and a surprise and that we need to be on our best behavior. I don’t know, I was kind of drifting in and out.”
“Whatever,” Bam sighed. “Can you get out while I try to squeeze myself in this shirt?”
“Why? Its not like you’ve got anything I haven’t seen before,” Novak smiled as he fell back onto Bam’s bed. “So come on then, give daddy a strip tease. Just be sure to do a good job.”
Bam and Novak just stared each other down for a few moments. Nudie was known for his lecherous ways. It wasn’t that he wasn’t attractive, Bam could just never see him in that light. So whenever his friend would make comments like this, the skater would either laugh it off, get angry, or get extremely uncomfortable. This was one of the latter moments.
“Yeah….,” Bam began. “I’m just gonna go in the bathroom and vomit for a few minutes. I should be out sometime before dinner.”
“Have fun then,” Novak winked. Bam walked out of the room, shuddering as he ran to the bathroom. He loved his friend, but he could be downright creepy sometimes.
Once he reached the bathroom down the hall, he locked himself securely inside and set the clothing down on the counter. Sighing, he sat down on top of the toilet and just stared at the shirt. That red bastard was going to constrict and rip and practically suffocate him. He knew it! Well…he had no choice in the matter really. With the release of a deep breath, he began removing his jeans and replacing them with the black slacks. When he tried to put one the button-up shirt though, it was just as he had suspected, the damn thing wouldn’t fit around his muscular frame. After trying for about five minutes to get at least one of those buttons clasped, Bam gave up. Well…the shirt was on at least. Ape never said that it had to be done up.
“Yo, Bam-Bam,” Novak’s voice called through the door. “Jess just pulled in. Better get your ass downstairs now.”
“Alright, I’m coming down,” Bam called back.
Quickly grabbing up his discarded clothing, Bam rushed out of the bathroom, tossed his clothes into his own room as he ran by, and made his way down the stairwell. April was standing by the door, looking out the small window adjacent to the door. When she saw Bam, she just rolled her eyes and let out a very audible groan. Bam just gave her his signature smirk and bounced up to her side.
“Oh! He’s here!” April squealed. “Phil, honey get in here quick!”
“Ape,” Bam laughed. “Calm down, Jess is going to be here for the week. Phil will have plenty of opportunities to see him.”
“Excuse me for being excited to see my own offspring again,” April shot back.
The pair watched through the blurry window as the figure walked from his car and up to the door. As much as Bam would hate to admit it, he was probably just as excited as his mother. He couldn’t wait to hear about Jess’s life in college, about his new band and the new people in his life. He wanted to share things with his brother as well. He wanted to tell him about all of the pranks he’s been pulling lately, about the banning from many local businesses, and, of course, his newfound obsession, a tall Finn named Ville.
Finally, the figure had made its way on to the porch and rang the doorbell. Before the bell could even finish, Ape had the door opened and Jess pulled into an unbelievably tight hug.
“Good to see you too Mom,” Jess laughed as he tried to catch his breath. “You’re kind of hurting me.”
“I don’t care if I’m squeezing you lifeless, I’m just so glad you’re home!” She laughed as she gave him one more tight squeeze before releasing him.
“Hey there Brat,” Jess smiled to his little brother. “Are you not going to say hello?”
Bam searched his mind for a witty come-back, but his head was coming up blank. Instead he just smiled to his brother and embraced him in a light hug. “Good to see you man,” Bam laughed.
“You too. I’ve missed you man,” Jess told him, giving him one tight squeeze before letting him go.
“Then why haven’t you called me, you ass?”
“Same reason you haven’t called me,” Jess replied. “I’ve been busy.”
“Hey there. Welcome home son!” Phil’s voice boomed from behind the group.
“Hey Dad,” Jess grinned. “And hey there Novak.”
Bam turned to see Novak standing slightly beside/behind Phil. His head was tilted down and Bam could see a slight blush on his cheeks. Oh come on! He’s denied still having a thing for Jess all day, but the minute he shows up on the doorstep, he falls into a big pile of mush. And he had the audacity to mock him while he was describing Ville?
“Hey Jess-Jess,” Novak spoke in a shaky voice.
“So, can we help you get your bags?” Phil suggested.
“A…actually,” Jess began. “T-there’s something else that I need to tell you guys first. I-I’ve kind of met someone this semester.”
“Oh sweetie, that’s wonderful!” April exclaimed. Typical mother reaction.
“Thanks, but that’s not the point. I…I’ve invited them here for the holidays.”
“Well then,” Ape continued. “Don’t just stand there, invite her in.” Jess just kind of gave his mother an awkward smile before he turned to the door.
“What’s up with him?” Bam thought to himself. Novak must have read his expression, because his friend returned his look of confusion and shrugged his shoulders.
After a couple of moments of awkward silence, Jess finally returned to the doorway with his friend in tow. The two were slow in their movements, but then again, time could have been slowed down for Bam once he realized who his brother was dragging inside. It was a tall, slender, dark figure wrapped in a dark trench coat and scarf. A creature with the fullest lips and most beautiful green eyes he had ever seen. The Finn truly was the most breath-taking thing he had ever laid eyes on.
“Guys,” Jess began with a determined voice. “I’d like you all to meet someone important to me. This is Ville…my boyfriend.”
