Previous Chapters Rake sighed and pushed his glasses back as he glared down at the Chemistry textbook he was reading. He didn’t want to study, but oh, no he had to. There was a Chemistry exam on Monday, and he wanted to pass.
But he didn’t want to study.
He flicked to the chapter review, and started to pencil in the answers.
Twenty minutes later, and he had done two questions.
This was so boring.
Bam had often teased him about wanting to get a degree in Chemistry, and Rake had just shrugged it off, and compared his passed test and exam papers to Bam’s failed Biology ones.
The phone rang, and Rake jumped. Silently thanking whatever entities were out there, he bolted from his room, scrambled downstairs and launched himself at the phone.
“Hello?”
A cute chuckle reached his ear. “Hey, you.”
Rake smiled softly. “Hey, Ry. How’re you?”
“I’m good, and you?”
Rake was suspicious; Ryan seemed far too casual for this to be any regular phone call. There had to be strings attached.
“Rake? You still there?”
Rake started and almost dropped the phone. “Yeah, sorry. Listen, I’ve got to go. I have to study for a Chemistry exam.”
Rake could hear the pout in Ryan’s voice. “Okay… Bye, Hellboy.”
Rake hung up and went back to his studies, his brain not really focused.
Later on, he would regret not focusing.

Eicca rubbed his eyes sleepily and placed his cello in its case with tender care. He had been practicing for a good two hours and now his fingers, arms and eyes hurt. He got up, rubbing his arms, and went to the kitchen, where his dinner lay on the table, getting cold, his parents already having eaten.
Eicca looked at the meal with impassive eyes. Meat and three veg, how typical. Shrugging, he grabbed the plate and placed it in the microwave. Just as he was fiddling with the timer, the phone rang next to his head.
He picked it up tentatively, just in case it was a relative who wanted to yell at his father.
“Hello?”
“Hey, babe.”
Eicca relaxed, it was Perttu.
“How’re things?” Eicca asked, leaning against the kitchen counter.
Perttu sighed. “Fine. Everyone’s out again. I have the house to myself.”
Eicca laughed. “Nice. Having fun?”
Perttu snorted. “No, not really. Do you reckon you could escape and come over?”
Eicca shrugged. “I suppose. No-one would give a crap, anyway.”
“Awesome. When can I expect you?”
Eicca grinned. “After my dinner, moron.”
With that, he hung up, a huge smile on his slightly feminine features.
