Chapter 9

Ville’s green eyes stared into Bam’s as he lay beneath him. They laid like that for a long, glorious moment, saying nothing nor doing anything. Finally the corners of Ville’s mouth raised into a warm smile. He reached up and touched his cheek with soft, delicate fingers. Just the warmth from his touch was enough to get Bam aroused. He gently pressed his engorged member against Ville’s hips. Ville’s eyes grew wide with intrigue. He looked deep into Bam’s eyes, his lips parting slightly as he longed for the moment to become more heated.

“Wake up, Bam,” he said gently. Bam blinked down at him.

“What?” he asked.

“I said wake up,” his voice became more forceful. “You’re friend needs help.”

Bam’s eyes opened slowly. He lay alone in his bed, snuggling only his extra pillow. He let out a loud sigh, throwing the pillow to the empty spot next to him. He kicked his covers off and sat up on the edge of his mattress. He glanced to the clock, which read eleven-thirty. Dani should be leaving for work soon. At least Bam wouldn’t have to worry about him for a few hours, anyway.

He pushed himself off of the bed and walked out of his room. He headed down the hallway, passing DanI’s room, which was blaring heavy metal. He leaned in close to hear if Dani was in there, shuffling about as he got ready for work. He wasn’t able to hear anything over the lyrics to whichever Lamb of God song he had in his player.

Bam reached for the knob, turning it and opening the door just enough to peek in. He found Dani laying face down on his mattress, sleeping. Bam walked into the room, walking to the stereo and turning the volume down. He really didn’t want the downstairs neighbors to report them for noise pollution again.

“Dani, wake up. You’re going to be late for work,” he said, walking up to the foot of the bed. Dani didn’t reply. Bam reached out and tapped him on the bottom of his foot. It was a trick he learned from a previous roommate. No one can sleep through that bothersome tapping. Dani still wouldn‘t move. “Hey, man. Wake up! You can’t be late for work again. Remember what happened last time?” he said as he continued to tap on his foot. There was still no response.

Bam walked around to the side of the bed and pushed Dani onto his back. His body rolled over limply, exposing a horrifying sight. His face was pale and he was foaming slightly at the mouth. He was taking extremely shallow breaths. Bam looked down and found an empty orange bottle clutched in one of his hands.

“Oh dear God,” he whispered, taking a step back. He ran out of the room and back into his own, grabbing the cell phone he barely ever used from his nightstand. He quickly dialed the hospital emergency line, getting an automated voice. He cursed under his breath, not wanting to bother listening and pressing numbers. His friend could be dead by then. He threw the phone on the bed and ran back out of his room.

He made his way into the living room and found Ville dozing on the sofa as he always was in the morning. He gave his shoulder a tight squeeze to wake him. Green eyes slowly opened and looked up at him.

“Good morrow,” he said sleepily with a stretch.

“Get something on and help me,” Bam said, not bothering to waste time explaining himself. He ran back down the hallway and into DanI’s room. He grabbed the limp man around the waist, pulling him off the bed and somehow managing to throw him over his shoulder.

Ville peeked into the room and saw what he was doing. “What’s going on?” he asked. Bam grunted.

“Get my keys from the nightstand. Hurry!” he demanded. Ville obeyed, sprinting back into Bam’s room. He came back shortly after with the wad of keys. “Now open the front door for me,” he said, starting to make his way out of the room. For such a small guy, Dani was quite heavy.

They made their way slowly to Bam’s car. He opened the back door and placed Dani into the backseat. He jumped into the front seat and started up the car, making treads as he left the apartment complex.

The whole way to the hospital, Ville kept looking back at Dani and asking what was wrong with him. Every time he would ask, Bam would grow more irritated. He gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles turning white.

“Do you know what has happened to Dani?” Ville asked for the millionth time. Bam took in a deep breath.

“Yes Ville, but you wouldn’t understand,” he finally answered. He made a turn, following the blue sign with a large H that guided his way to the hospital. The visit will be a lot less complicated this time than it was with Ville.

He turned his car into the hospital parking lot, finding a spot close to the emergency room entrance. He dragged Dani out of the back, throwing him over his shoulder once again, and headed for the front doors.

They walked in, and Bam placed the unconscious man into a wheel chair, then pushed him up to the front desk. There was that same blonde receptionist tapping away at that damned computer.

“I need to get in now!” Bam shouted, not waiting for her to notice him this time. The lady jumped and looked up. She saw Dani in the wheelchair and reached over for a button. Automatic doors swung open to the right. Bam pushed the wheelchair through the doors.

After a moment of wandering aimlessly, an orderly came up and took the chair from him. The kid took off with Dani down the hall and put him in a room at the end. He ran back to Bam and Ville.

“You’re going to have to wait outside in the waiting room until the doctor says it’s okay,” he explained. Bam wasn’t about to listen to him.

“Fuck that, I’m going to stay here until Dani wakes up.” He pushed past the boy and walked to the room he was put in. A nurse was already in there hooking an IV up to his arm. She looked at him.

“Sorry sir, but you’re going to have to leave, or else we’ll call security,” she said calmly. Bam ran a hand through his hair.

“At least tell me what you’re going to do to him,” he said. The nurse shook her head again.

“Sorry. Doctor-patient confidentiality. He can tell you whenever he wakes up,” she answered. Bam growled and stormed back into the hallway where Ville was standing. The young orderly seemed to be flirting with him, which made Bam even angrier. He grabbed Ville by the arm and dragged him back into the waiting room.

DanI’s eyes opened slowly. Where was he. There was the sound of beeping monitors around him. What had happened? He remembered waking up that morning, dreading having to go to work. What happened after that?

The memories suddenly came flooding back. Him grabbing his sleeping pills and turning on his music to cover up any of the noise he might make. He reached up and rubbed his forehead and found an IV protruding from his arm. He took in a deep breath, smelling that smell of sanitary cleaners and sprays. He was definitely at a hospital. Bam must have taken him. Why would Bam take him to the hospital after the way he had acted the day before?

Oh God. He started to remember the day before. How he had pushed Ville down, and was going to force him into things the poor thing didn’t even understand. Dani closed his eyes and let out a sigh. Why was he brought here? He wished he was left in his room to die. He deserved it, after all the things he had done.

The sound of the door opening jostled him from his thoughts. He opened his eyes and found a large woman in a very colorful outfit walking in with a new IV bag. He watched her walk around his bed to the stand, changing out the bags, not even giving him a glance. Finally, she turned her attention to him.

“Oh, I see you’re awake,” she pointed out the obvious. She reached down and grabbed his wrist, feeling for a pulse. She stared at her watch as she counted his heart rate. After a moment, she dropped his hand and forced a smile. “Seems like your heart’s working fine,” she stated. She walked back to the front door and opened it. “I’ll let the doctor know you’re awake,” she told him before leaving.

Dani blew out a breath of air. He really didn’t want to be where he was. His stomach ached in the worst way, and his head felt like it was going to explode. He wanted to ask for some pain killers, but doubted the nurses would let him, being as he had overdosed on drugs not but a few hours ago.

After a few minutes of waiting, a doctor came in and inspected him in the usual way a doctor would. When he was done prodding around, he wrote something on a pad and walked out. Another few minutes passed and the door opened once again. Bam peeked through the opening.

Dani grunted and closed his eyes. He hoped that if he did this Bam would get the message and leave him alone. Unfortunately it didn’t work this way. Bam walked in, followed closely by that cursed beauty. Dani could feel both pairs of eyes staring at him. Finally, he opened his eyes and looked at them.

“How are you feeling?” Bam asked quietly. DanI’s eyes scanned over both of them. Bam looked horribly concerned, and Ville just had that normal look of ‘What the hell is going on?’

“I’m feeling fantastic,” Dani croaked sarcastically. His throat was horribly sore when he tried to talk, and he knew why. Some one had shoved a tube down his throat to get the drugs out. Oh, how he wished they hadn’t.

“I am elated you feel okay. Bam kept saying worrisome things about how you were going to die,” Ville stated, clueless as to what he was talking about. Bam reached over and hit him in the stomach to silence him. Ville furrowed his brow at him as he rubbed his stomach.

It was quiet for a long time, and Dani could feel the question coming on that would inevitably be asked either by Bam or by some hospital shrink.

“What in the world made you do such a thing?” Bam finally asked. Dani sighed, figuring he would ask first. He was always such a nosey one.

“I would tell you, but you wouldn’t believe me,” he answered. He looked down at his hands, which were fiddling with the blanket that had been placed over him sometime in his state of unconsciousness. “But, since I know you’re going to be bugging me until I tell you, I’ll make a long story short. Ville,” he pointed at Ville, “is the reason. Though, nothing he did caused me to do it. It was all me.”

Bam blinked several times, obviously confused as to what Dani was talking about. “What? Why, because you almost raped him?”

Dani winced at the word ‘rape’. “I wasn’t trying to rape him. I was trying to…” he trailed off, knowing that if he said too much, Bam would just send him to the nuthouse. He sighed, looking back down at his hands. “I was just trying to see what it was like to be with a guy,” he lied. He crumpled a lot of the blanket into his hands as he fidgeted. Finally, he sighed and looked up at them. “Look, it a really complicated situation, and I’d rather not talk about it right now. At least, not with you, Bam.”

Bam looked offended at that statement. “Why wouldn’t you want to talk about it with me? I though we were friends!” he practically shouted.

Dani glared at him. “It’s more complicated than that. I don’t think friendship can make anything about my history okay to share with you. You’re just going to have to deal with not knowing for now,” he said. Bam huffed, turning around and heading for the door. Ville was quick on his heels.

“Ville,” Dani said to him before he walked out the door. Ville turned and looked at him. “Stay for a minute,” he offered. Ville hesitated, but walked back into the room. Dani watched the door, making sure it had closed completely before he started talking. “I know I’m probably not supposed to say anything to you, but I’m going to anyway. About a century ago, you and I had known each other.”

Ville nodded. “Yes, you’ve told me that before.”

Dani waved his hand to silence him. “I know I’ve told you that, but I didn’t tell you everything. Back then we were a different kind of being. We worked directly under the supervision of the almighty God as angels. Beings with limited free will and only one real job to do.” He watched Ville’s eyes grow wide. He obviously knew what an angel was. Good. “Before I had met you I was always so bored. I was constantly sent down to earth by the Lord to do menial tasks for him. I was always so insulted that he would send me to simply send messages when other angels got to do incredible tasks like destroying the wicked in mass quantities at a time.

“Then one day God created you, another son intended to be created under his perfect image. But, unfortunately I set my eyes upon you. I was blown away by your beauty, which surpassed that of any other angel I had ever seen. I wooed you into my arms, and for the longest time we were secret lovers. Of course, you can’t keep secrets from Him. He eventually found out about us and threw me out of heaven, saying that it was my fault that you had acted this way. I was chased out of heaven by the angels and sent down to earth to live amongst mortals for all eternity as my punishment.”

Dani took in a deep breath. He looked up at Ville, who was staring back at him with wide eyes. He slowly shook his head and took a step back.

“I do not believe you,” he said shakily. Dani leaned his head back on his pillow and closed his eyes.

“It breaks my heart to hear you say that,” he mumbled.

He heard footsteps and the door to his room opening. It closed with a slam, which echoed across the walls. Dani cursed under his breath.

“Why didn’t Bam just leave me in my room to die,” he sighed, rolling onto his side and drifting off into sleep.
