The floor was dirty. That’s basically all Bam could think as he sat in the hospital morgue with Mige and the rest of Ville’s grieving family and friends. Not the fact that his best friend and ex-lover was dead, no…just that the floor was dirty. And it was cold.

“Bam?”

He was snapped out of his thoughts to look up at Mige’s face.

“One of the officers wants to talk to you.” He nodded and walked with him to the back and into the office.

“Mr. Margera?” he asked in a broken accent.

“Yeah?”

“I know this must be very hard for you, but I need you to answer a few questions, okay?” Bam nodded slowly and sat down.

“Now, what was your relationship with Mr. Valo?” Bam looked down. “Mr. Margera?” Mige put a hand on his back and rubbed his soothingly.

“I don’t think I can do this,” he whispered.

“I know this is hard, but we wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t nessaccary.” Bam nodded and took a breath.

“He was my…boyfriend…but…but, we broke up…I…I just came to see if he was alright…” The detective wrote what Bam said in a little notepad and continued asking extremely difficult questions about where Bam had found Ville and how he looked.

“Can…Can I go now?” Bam asked nervously.

“Well, there’s one more thing…we need you to identify the body.” Bam felt like he was going to throw up.

“Why me?”

“Mr. Valo left you power of attorney.” He looked over to Mige who was crying once again.

“O-Okay…”

Bam and the detective walked down to the morgue and met the coroner. Bam immediately saw a body covered with a white sheet lying on a silver table. It was cold in there, too. The sheet was lifted off and Bam’s legs nearly gave out from under him.

“It’s…It’s him…” Both men nodded and Bam was quickly escorted out of the room. In the waiting room Bam was met with Ville’s mother, crying hysterically into her husband’s shoulder.

‘Let me wake up,’ he thought. ‘Please, God, just let me wake up…’

But he didn’t wake up, nor did Ville. Bam was trapped in a nightmare that he couldn’t get out of. He wanted to go back in time and be with Ville. He wanted to hold him, to kiss him, to love him…but that wasn’t going to happen.
Before everyone left the hospital the detective stopped Bam for a moment.

“Mr. Margera?” He turned around and looked at him with tired eyes. “We found this at the scene. It was addressed to you.” He handed Bam a wrinkled envelope with his name written on it.

“T-Thank you…”

Three days later Ville’s funeral was held in Helsinki. All of his family and friends were there including some of Bam’s. The ceremony was all in Finnish, but Bam was lost in his own thoughts the whole time anyway.

When it was over everyone went to their cars except for Bam. He stayed sitting, looking at Ville’s black coffin being lowered into the ground.

‘That’s my baby…my Ville’s in there…the one person I loved is…in a box…’
