About some half an hour later our boys were walking down the street going to the party to celebrate Bam’s first victory. Bam insisted on Ville getting in the tightest pair of leather pants he possessed. Ville was allowed to chose whichever black shirt he wanted as long as it was somewhat tight. Ville made Bam promise he’ll go to the party dressed like that if Bam packs his ass in tight jeans and white t-shirt and let Ville put some eyeliner on him.
No, you’re not wrong for thinking that people were looking after them as they were walking down the streets. You’re absolutely right to imagine males giving them odd looks and muttering something under their breath and girls giving them hot looks and stripping them with their eyes.
When they showed up in Polly’s yard as the sun was setting down all eyes followed them as they were walking around looking for Jack, Mike or anybody else they knew in that way too big crowd especially for Ville’s taste.
“Have you noticed that people are checking us?” Bam said in Ville’s ear.
“No, not really” Ville shook his head.
“Well they are. And I don’t like it very much.”
“Why? I thought you wanted to show off here,” Ville smirked.
“Yeah, but not like this,” he pointed out.
“Hey, it’s not your fault you’re hot,” Ville grinned and Bam rolled his eyes. Then they noticed the familiar faces and went to join them.
“Here’s our champion,” Jack greeted them. “Hey, what the fuck is that on your eyes?” he narrowed his eyebrows looking at Bam.
“An eyeliner. What does it look like?” Bam snorted glancing at Ville who was grinning a little talking with Whitney.
“Hey, I didn’t mean anything bad just didn’t know you are wearing make-up,” Jack sad defensively.
“I don’t. Ville talked me into it.”
“Oh,” Jack sounded surprised and Bam gave him a look. “Nothing, man,” Jack raised his hands defensively. “You just didn’t seem like someone who would let anybody talk him into something like that. That’s all.”
“Jack, drop it,” Bam said calmly and Jack nodded.
“C’mon, I want you to meet few people,” Jack said and motioned Bam to follow him.
On the other hand Ville’s conversation with Whitney started much better than Bam and Jack’s.
“Have you two decided to cause all girls here fight over you?” she said grinning.
“Maybe,” Ville shrugged. “Wait, are you trying to tell me something?”
“Keep dreaming,” she snorted.
“Oh, you’ve just broke my heart.”
“Shut up and drink,” she rolled her eyes and they both giggled a bit before taking a sip of their drinks.
“What’s going on between you two? Am I missing something?” Mike grinned interrupting their fits of giggles.
“Just Whitney here breaking my heart.”
“Oh, stop it,’ Whitney poked Ville in his ribs.
“Well, you’re not the only one mate. She’s after Bam,” Mike pointed out and earned a hit in arm.
“Mike!” Whitney yelled at him and Ville started to laugh as she got red in her cheeks.
“What?! You said it yourself,” Mike rubbed his arm.
“I know, but you aren’t supposed to go around and tell it to everybody, you know.”
“I don’t do that,” Mike said offended. “Besides, Ville should know. He might help you,” he said looking at Ville.
“Oh, no,” Ville shook his head grinning. “Don’t count on me. I don’t want to interfere.”
“Oh, c’mon. You could say a few words to him in her favour,” Mike said. “You two are best friends.”
“Exactly,” Ville nodded. “And I don’t want to lose that because of some girl. No offence Whitney,” he turned to her and she nodded.
“What are you talking about? It’s not like you’ll do god knows what. Just tell him she’s interested.”
“No way,” Ville shook his head. “You never know what might happen between them and I don’t want to be blamed for anything,” Ville said calmly then turned to Whitney. “If you want to be with him, just go talk to him. It’s between you two after all, not between me and you two or anybody else.”
“I can’t just go to him like that,” Whitney shook her head.
“Why not?” Ville asked. “You don’t have to say it straight away but you can go talk to him and see if you have any chance or not. He doesn’t even have to know how you feel for him for real, you know.”
Whitney returned Ville a little grin then glanced at Mike who shrugged sipping his beer, “You know what? You’re right,” she nodded and Ville grinned satisfed. “I’ll talk to him but later. First I need to down a few drinks.”
Ville giggled. He knew Whitney doesn’t have any chance with Bam but he didn’t want to tell her that. Ever since Bam had his fit of jealousy because of Whitney and ever since Ville realized Whitney is interested in Bam he wished to see Bam deal with her. He thought it might be fun to see Bam trying to explain Whitney he’s not interested in her and tell her why not. He could hardly wait to see that.
Mike kept Ville entertained with different stories and he made sure Ville always had his drink. He and Whitney introduced Ville to lots of people just as Jack was doing with Bam. Both of them were having a very good time though most of the time they were separated and had barely spoken to each other but none of them minded it. The band that was playing inside was good and since they had started their show that’s where Bam could always find Ville even when the band was taking a break.
Mike knew the members of the band since they were using his garage to make some demos. He was friend with them for a while you could say. Whitney gave him an idea to ask them let Ville sing something or even better some of his songs and since he made sure Ville did like them he decided to introduce them. As soon as they said they’re taking a break he led Ville to them.
Bam got tired of some idiot who was boring him for the last twenty minutes so he said he’s going to get himself a drink and went to look for Ville. Bam was feeling bit tipsy but he was in much better, actually he was in great state compared to many who were already blind drunk, some were passed outboth outside and inside of the house. When he saw Ville last time he seemed bit more happy than usual as well.
He saw him standing with Mike and few guys from the band and he walked over to them.
“There you are,” he said grinning at Ville who instantly returned the grin.
“And you must be the guy that won that competition today,” one of the guys said to Bam.
“Yap, that’s me,” Bam happily nodded. He had heard that line so many times that night but he didn’t get tired of hearing it over and over. “Bam, nice to meet you,” he said offering his hand to the guy.
“Jay, nice to meet you too. Man you kick ass big time,” the guy complemented Bam and made him grin like a Chesire cat.
“Thanks. You kick ass too and if I haven’t heard Ville before you, I would be blown away,” he said kind of appologetically.
“You play something?” Jay turned to Ville who’d probably be red if there wasn’t beer in his veins.
“Plays, sings and writes the best songs ever,” Bam said before Ville could even open his mouth.
“Really?”
“Yeah,” Mike jumped in. “We did a demo tape few days ago and that’s why I wanted to introduce him to you. I thought maybe you could let him sing a few songs tonight.”
“Mike, I don’t…”
“Sure. If you say he’s good I trust you,” Jay ignored Ville completely. “I’ll go tell others and you get ready we start again in few minutes,” Jay said to Ville then disappeared before Ville got chance to say anything.
“Why did you two do that?” Ville asked looking at Mike and Bam who were grinning at each other satisfied. “Those guys are really good I don’t want to make a fool out of myself in front of everybody. I’m not going to sing,” he shook his head.
“You sing better than their singer…” Mike started.
“Yeah. You’re the best….” Bam joined him.
“You won’t make a fool of yourself….”
“But maybe of their singer you will….” Bam finished it for Mike and they both agreed with that.
“Guys, I’m not going to do it,” Ville was persistant.
“Oh, c’mon Ville,” Bam frowned. “How do you think to become a rock star if people don’t hear you sing?” Bam asked the right question and Ville knew he’s right.
“I know but…” Ville started to defend himself.
“But nothing,” Bam cut him off. “C’mon, do it for me, please?”
Damn that look! Damn those eyes! Bam wasn’t fair he knew Ville couldn’t say no to those blue eyes. He sighed rolling his eyes, “Damn you.”
“Yes!” Bam rejoiced together with Mike and Whitney who showed up out of nowhere.
“Ok, people, we have a friend here who’s going to sing a few songs with us so be nice to him,” Jay’s voicegot everybody’s attention. “Come here Ville,” he waved to Ville who was sipping his beer.
“Go,” Bam pushed him a litle and Ville found himself in front of the band still cursing Bam’s puppy dog eyes.
Guys asked him what he’d like to sing and he suggessted “Enjoy the Silence” and they didn’t mind. They started the intro and Ville turned to face the crowd. God, he didn’t even know how many people were there. He took a good drag of his beer and fixed his eyes on Bam grinning like a Chesire cat in front of him. He closed his eyes and started to sing.
Ville hoped no one will get idea to throw a bottle or can on him before he finish the song. He was a little nervous when he started to sing but soon he heard ovations and sounds of approvement around him and he relaxed at one point he decided to open his eyes and see what’s going on around.he couldn’t believe when he realized everybody is enjoying, dancing, jumping and having a good time, even the guys from the band especially Bam together with Mike and Whitney.
He was drinking his beer in between singing and he even found himself moving a little instead of just standing there. He was slowly getting carried away with the amazing feeling he had. Yeah, he could do this for the rest of his life.
Song was over and he was greeted with applause and crowd shouting more and more.
“Thank you sweethearts,” he said and motioned to go to Bam when Jay caught him for his arm.
“Where are you going? Don’t you hear they want more?” He said raising his eyebrows. “C’mon make these kids happy.”
Ville didn’t have to think twice he just nodded and returned to the mic. “So you want more?” he said to the crowd raising his eyebrows and scratching his head a bit.
“Yeah!!!” the crowd shouted in unision.
“Wow, ok. Just someone get me a new beer, ok?” he grinned and soon several bottles were in front of his nose as the band was starting the next song.
“He’s enjoying this,” Mike said to Bam. “And he didn’t want to sing.”
“Yeah,” Bam nodded. He was surprised how much was Ville enjoying it. Maybe it was for the alcohol maybe not but whatever it was Ville looked so confident and comfortable like he’s been doing this for a very long time.
“He’ll be big one day,” he said to Mike. Bam believed it will happen very soon.
“Yeah, he’s born for this,” Mike agreed.
Time was running by as well as rivers of different drinks for everybody, the band was choosing slower songs as soon they wiil play the final few songs for that night and pack their things and leave. Party was coming to its end as well as night.
Or maybe not?
