As Fate Wills

Chapter 40

“This shit’s just awesome!”
Novak slapped Bam on the back properly, causing him to flinch in laughter. “Come on, be careful, we still have to skate!” Bam exclaimed and punched him right back. Novak smiled.
“Nah, seriously, it’s such a rad park. Don’t y’all agree?”
He looked at the rest of the group which consisted of basically everybody that had ever been a member of the CKY clan questioningly, all of them lurking around at the bar Bam had set up for the opening event of the skatepark.
Bam’s older brother, who had finally finished business in LA and come back to West Chester, nodded. “Yeah, it’s unbelievable; Bam-Bam really got something done.”
Some burst out in laughter, and Bam fake-pouted. “It’s just my natural talent.”
“Talent? At what? Causing trouble?” Ryan Dunn asked teasingly.
“Pff whatever.”
“Glomb did all the work again, anyway.”
“You bet.” Bam grinned. For the first time in what seemed like forever, he was truly happy. Everything had worked out brilliant, much better than he thought his life could ever become again, and it was still improving.
“Alright.”, he stated and put down his bottle of beer to grab his board instead, “Novak, Glomb, get your shit ready - we gotta skate!”

Until then, the skatepark had been open for public skating, but now bouncers were closing down certain areas for the pro’s to do their demos at. Of course Bam had had the whole event filmed and MTV was going to do a special about it, as well as any newspaper in the area, which promised good promotion for the skaters and had thus convinced an impressive array of pro-skaters to come. And when you have Mike Vallely, Terry “Compton Ass” Kennedy, Tosh Townsend, Mike Maldonado, Kerry Getz, Bucky Lasek and even Arto Saari around, top-class skating is the inevitable result.
But when they were waiting with Bam, Glomb and Novak for the presenter to make his announcements, joking and talking eagerly, a loud and well-known noise interrupted it.
“What’s that shit?” Kerry asked and turned to Bam, who shrugged. He heard the helicopter very well, too, but he hadn’t got a clue what its appearance was all about. All he knew was that it was rapidly losing height and approaching the skatepark.
“It’s not crashing is it?” someone shouted but Bam shove it off.
“Hell no, but I’m afraid it’s landing…”

Bam pushed his way through the masses, his friends following him closely. None of them knew who would arrive at the skate demo, way to late and above all in a helicopter. It wasn’t like they were still expecting anybody.
The group came to a halt in front of the machine whose blades were still rotating, but couldn’t quite take a peek inside until the doors slid open. The people that had crowded behind them started to cheer, knowing the person that jumped out very well and probably thinking his appearance had been long-planned. It was none other but Tony Hawk.
“Birdman!” Bam exclaimed and ran towards him, greeting the older man with a firm handshake and a helpless laugh. Although he was one of the most famous skaters himself these days, Hawk was and would forever remain his idol.
“I thought you couldn’t make it!”
The older skater laughed likewise. “Well I loved when Danny Wray showed up with helicopter on your show, I just figured I’d do that, too, and surprise you fuckers. This time we even got a governmental permission, thanks to April.”
“Ah man, now you’re teaming up with my mother already to get permissions? West Chester is going to start thinking I’ve become all nice and moderate.” Bam said as they walked to the group of skaters, Tony waving to the public.
“I know you’re going to prove them wrong as soon as you can, Margera.”
“I’m a prove them very wrong, hell yeah. I thought about starting with noise pollution tonight!”
“Got CKY performing?”
“Yeah, them and … HIM.”
“HIM?” Tony glanced at Bam, “I thought Valo was in hospital?! Read that somewhere. What’s up with that?”
Bam shook his head. “You wouldn’t wanna know.”
They had reached the others, and Bam quickly changed the subject. He didn’t want to spoil the night with stories of the harmful past winter.
“Anyway everybody, feel free to do what ever the fuck you want and … charge drinks to my bill! After… !”, he raised his voice as the group mockingly started to spread into different directions quickly, “… after the skating! I didn’t build a whole fuckin skatepark for no reason!”

A/N: Sorry that this is such a short post, but the story has only 42 chapters and i don't want to post the last one separately. And I promise Valo-ness for the last/next post (in fact he gets to say his the last words and with that, the story's "message" lol).
