NASHUA One city teen is dead and another in critical condition at Childrens Hospital Boston after a car crash Sunday night on the F.E. Everett Turnpike, state police said.
Nicole Scontsas 16, died Monday night of serious injuries she sustained when the 1995 Toyota Camry she was driving crashed on the northbound Exit 8 off-ramp about 10:50 p.m., state police said.
Stephanie McGowan, also 16 and from Nashua, who was a front seat passenger in the car, is listed in critical condition at Childrens Hospital Boston where both teens were transported shortly after the crash, state police said.
Police are still investigating the crash, but they suspect that Scontsas was simply driving too fast for road conditions and her level of driving experience, according to a press release issued Monday. Police dont believe the teens had been drinking.
Trooper Andrew Vittoria is investigating the crash. He could not be reached for an interview Monday.
McGowan was riding in the front passenger seat of Scontsas Toyota when Scontsas lost control on the initial right-hand curve of the off-ramp, police reported. Her car slid onto the left shoulder and then crashed into a tree.
Scontsas was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, and McGowan to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center. Both girls were later brought to Childrens Hospital.
Scontsas and McGowan just finished their sophomore years at Nashua High School North.
That's scary as hell.
I grew up with those kids.
